Why Why Why GW!! Email problems

So I would like to receive emails from people and have read the thread about how to do so, but for some reason GW will not let me update my member profile! Any insight?

Did you click on Member Services at the bottom of the page with the threads list? And choose the one about editing your personal info? I think it's the second line? Did you make it to the form with your details?

If you can find that form, make sure the e-mail address you want to use is entered near the top, and check the box at the very bottom where it says to allow people to send you e-mail, and click the button to submit, send, or whatever it's called.

If you tried all that, is it that it won't accept your changes? I'm just not sure where you're having the problem.

Pllog- yes that is exactly my problem. I am able to log in and click on the member services part and select the email options but when I go save it, it shows some weird error message. It will not let me make any changes to that page. So weird.

I dunno, Joe. I tend to think that her's are producing because they are stressed as described above, but that is just a guess from what I have read. I can certainly understand the frustration, but you have some tomato cages to let them grow in and perhaps you will need all the support you can get to handle yours when they load up. A number of things can affect those things, sun might be one of the most obvious if yours are shaded or something. If you have not fertilized, just used compost, I surely would not think that they have enough nitrogen to cause a problem. In my garden, I laid the compost and composted horse manure on heavy. Some plants are loaded and some do not yet have a tomato set on the vines. Even some of the same variety are not consistent, and that puzzles me. One of those new Burpee's Porterhouse looks like and has . Another Portherhouse looks like and only has a couple of small tomatoes on the vine. The seed were started on the same day, and treatment has been about equal, other than the bigger one is in a container of compost and composted horse manure and gets more sun, while the other is in the ground and gets more shade. Wow, I am very late to this, but I feel the need to say something. I sell these tubs for a living and $2,000 is basically a steal anymore. V&A has some of the most reasonable prices, especially since it's a stone composite. Most tubs, especially ones with jets, that are sold in a showroom are far more than that. Never, ever, ever buy a tub off-line or from a bulk store. There are simple reasons for this. One is for warranty. You will want that warranty. Box stores and online will not offer you real warranties. If you buy online and it comes in scratched, the company will do nothing to help you. Neither will your local dealers. There are numerous other reasons that I won't go into. Never, ever buy a tub off of craigslist. Not only can it be a health risk to you, but it resurfacing to sell is normally done very cheap- meaning it's only going to last a few years before it's once again needing to be resurfaced. Resurfacing is not cheap. It's always best to research the style you want. Go with a respected brand and research the prices. Research why they cost that price- especially, when stone comes into play (V&A uses volcanic limestone). Research what comes with what- for instance, American Standard has a very pretty freestanding that comes with a chrome floor mounted filler for about $2,000. It's a basic acrylic, but it's fairly good quality. Buy it from a dealer, where they can get you the warranty and parts if and when needed. Always think about the worst case scenario. Research and find a dealer. Don't buy for the cheap- it will break. I have people in my store everyday wanting us to fix a cheap faucet they got online and we cannot. Do not buy a cheap tub- they are typically single layer and will not hold up. They are often rarely finished, which leads to the tub looking dull and scratched after only a few years. Always, always talk to your local showrooms about offers and the best deals. I just recently spent three days looking for a modern style slipper tub under $2,000 for a customer and found a beautiful one for $1,600 made of double layer acrylic. Also, most freestanding tub fillers run about $1,000 for simple and good reasons- their design is not anything like a deck mount and they are expensive to make and occasionally difficult to install. Made another batch today....dismal failure. Again. Here is the recipe I tried: Pecan Supremes Mrs. Fields Cookie Book 2 c AP flour 1 tsp soda 1/4 tsp salt 3/4 c quick oats 3/4 c dark brown sugar (packed) 3/4 c white sugar 1 c salted butter, softened 2 large eggs 2 tsp vanilla 1 c chopped pecans 1 c semisweet chocolate morsels Preheat oven to 300F, In a medium bowl combine flour, soda, salt & oats, mix well with whisk and set aside. In large bowl, blend sugars with electric mixer at medium speed, Add butter and mix to form a grainy paste. Scrape down sides of bowl, then add eggs and vanilla. Beat at medium speed until fully combined. Add the flour mixture, pecans and chocolate chips, blend at low speed until combined. Do not overmix. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets. bake 18-20 minutes. Immediately transfr cookies with a spatula to a cool, flat surface. I experimented a bit. Made 6 cookies on an airbake sheet and 6 cookies on a heavy aluminum sheet. No difference...I ended up with a big, run\-together blob of thin cookie. Chilled the rest of the dough for 6 hours. Baked a dozen cookies. No difference...I ended up with a big, run\-together blob of thin cookie. Each time I let them cool a bit on the sheets and I practically needed a jack hammer to remove the. it was a mess. I was going to take a picture, but found my camera battery is dead. Let me just echo what melsouth said above. I was quoted an upcharge by one cabinet maker for painted white, but in our current new house the price was the same for stained or painted white from a different cabinetmaker. Perhaps you can get an estimate from another shop. It also bothers me that your cabinet maker is trying to discourage you from using white since he prefers stained. He should NOT be doing that. In a previous home, I let myself be pressured to do some things by the cabinet maker and always regretted those choices since I really preferred other things, but felt I had to go with his recommendations. As others have said, you're stronger than you even realize after sustaining the loss of your husband. It's natural to struggle with decisions following that...and sometimes I've found just getting a bit older can make decision making (particularly so many at the same time) more likely to be overwhelming. Just take them one at a time, and it will get done. My sincere sympathy over your loss, and I hope you'll still find the joy in each new day you have. Regarding appliances--if YOU like white cabinets and choose that, you can go with either white or stainless. With cherry, IMHO stainless would look best. We went with stainless in this house with white cabinets because I didn't care for the appearance of big white refrigerators. But we chose the stainless look frig that doesn't show fingerprints. I've found that the stainless undermount sink I thought I'd hate, is actually less work than my previous white one. As with so many things, in the long run, it will work out. Just take it one step at a time. Keep us posted. You have so many friends here ready to help you.

Pllog- So I tried again and now it worked. Weird. I have tried 4 or 5 times over the last few days. Not sure why it is now working.

I'm glad that's resolved!! The answer is probably that they were doing some kind of work on the page that knocked it out of commission for a short time. It happens.

When you're an "oldie" you'll start thinking back with fondness about this episode as one of the more easily resolved issues. There have been some doozies. :)

I have pretty much avoided GardenWeb for years as I cannot update my profile. I keep getting an error message that "user name or password does not match".
I am logged into my page using my user name and my password, I just updated it after becoming frustrated 5 years or so.
However, nothing has changed. I see my user name, my personal profile, but I cannot include my name, area, garden zone, or OK receiving emails.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this years old "dead end"?
Thanks if you have a clue. Anyone I can contact?
Heck, I just realized that you can't even let me know as I cannot enable this feature on my Preferences page - the problem I am talking about.

I've got a similar issue, but my profile & permissions are all as they should be. I don't get GW email & haven't in years. After using the "contact us" button several times with no response, I finally searched the site. Turns out that Verizon is incompatible, so, no GW emails to Verizon.

I was told it won't work without entering your complete birth date in your profile.

I'm glad somebody posted about this. Someone in Home Decorating recently offered to give me an artist's name if I emailed her & set my email preferences to receive.

I tried to no avail to do this. Glad to know I'm not alone having difficulties with something that appeared to be so simple to do.

I had this same problem and finally asked the GW Admin to assist. They said that it was because a location field was blank (not sure how, because I had filled in everything so the system was obviously not picking it up). The GW Admin were amazingly prompt and helpful in resolving it. They changed the password, filled in the details and then sent me a link to reset the pw. Please see excerpts of the correspondence below - hopefully this may be of use to you?

Is it possible you've left one of the fields in the profile blank, or do you have the birth date filled out This portion of the form is now a required field, and will sometimes cause a glitch with saving profile changes if it's not added in there. If you've added a date and are still experiencing trouble saving changes, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.

It appears that because the location form fields were blank, this was what was preventing your from saving any changes. Once I filled in these fields, I was able to successfully change your profile.
