You did a fantastic job!

I like how the lighter floors and backsplash contrast with the darker cabinets and granite. It keeps it from feeling too heavy which can happen when you choose dark furnishings.

Did you do any of the labor yourself? Did you have a contractor?

I developed the design myself (with some good suggestions from people here on this forum) but we hired a general contractor for all of the actual work.

You guys did a beautiful job. I am so happy to see your post because my new and old floor plans are almost exactly like yours. (That darn DW door is always in the way when I am cooking). Where did you get your cabinets? How wide is your pantry cabinet? I wish I had all of those windows!

The cabinets were provided by my GC. They are an RTA line, that have maple doors and framing with the rest of the cabinet constructed from plywood.

I examined the demo cabinets that were on display in the contractor's showroom and after comparing them to other options at Lowes, HD, Great Indoors and even one custom builder, I came to the conclusion that these offered the best value for the money.

The pantry is 30" wide and 96" tall.

5 weeks?! Wow! Looks great! I love your organized drawers (I'm jealous). And that wall color is yummy - great choice with your cabinets.

Your kitchen came out wonderful!! I am seeing some similarities here :) Our kitchen was original to the 1982 build and we had the same exact flourescent light box! Did you raise your ceilings? We were able to raise ours a foot and replaced the light box with recessed lights also. We are just finishing our 5th week with the help of a GC. It's so funny when you see someone doing similar changes :)

I remember your layout being worked on. Can't believe you're done already! I turned out great! Enjoy your new kitchen. Hope you make many happy memories in the new space :)

I actually found those at Lowes for $23 each. A very happy find.

There is a 24" drawer unit to the left of the range and a 21" unit on the right. All four of the lower drawers are used for pots and smaller pans and the top two drawers store my cooking utensils (spatulas, ladles, spoons, etc.)

The actually drawers hold an impressive amount of cookware. Right now I have in them:

1 - 4qt saute pan
3 - 3qt saucepans
2 - 3.5qt saucepans
2 - 2 qt saucepans
1 - 1.5 qt saucepan
1 - 2 qt saucier
1 - 1 qt saucepan
1 - 8" skillet
2 - 3qt steamer inserts
2 - nonstick skillets

... and the lids for all of them.

The only pans which don't fit in those drawers are my large skillets, large stockpots (12 & 16 qt) and the wok. The skillets are hanging on those hooks set up off to the right of the range and the stockpots & wok I keep stored under the island (as they are used less frequently).

That is exactly what we did.

We tore out the drop ceiling and fluorescent ballasts and raised the ceiling in the kitchen up from 7' to 8'.

That part of the remodel was what was responsible for most of the cost overruns as we had to relocate some AC ducts, electrical wires and plumbing in order to eliminate that furdown completely. But even that work was relatively minor and came to about $1800 above what was in the original plan.

Wow - quite a transformation in a month! Lovely changes and certainly looks like a much more enjoyable space to live/work in....enjoy it!

Very beautiful job! I especially love the way you did the backsplash and left the area around the window painted. It gives a "wow" of color that you can change if you ever want a different look. I also like the "skillet rack". Everything is beautiful, those are just the unique features I really like.

Oh yes.. They are working out beautifully.

The drawers are just what come standard with those cabinets. However, the slides on my drawers are rated to hold up to 70 pounds at full extension and my pots and pans don't come close to that much weight.

For an example of how much the drawers can support, the design center that I bought them through uses the drawers in their display models to store stone tile and backsplash samples. Once I saw that I figured that if they could hold fifty or more pounds of "rocks" then fifteen to twenty pounds of cookware shouldn't be a problem at all.

I did line the bottoms of those drawers with adhesive backed cork liner in order to protect them from being scuffed by the pans though.
