You're right Dallas, Even though they try to hide all technical discussion within their little Pro Forums I think they get bored with each other and come out into the public forums where there's "fresh meat" to go after. It entertains them more and strokes their ego's. In the process there can be some very worthwhile nuggets of info shared. However once they catch the scent of DIY they clam up pretty tight. The key is to post your questions in a manner that doesn't have DIY written all over it. (however sometimes they can sniff out DIY like a 6th sense). I stumbled onto their "For Your Interest" section. There's a wealth of information there that they haven't locked up. Norm's articles are excellent. They claim they don't want the liability of answering DIY questions but the real agenda is to surpress the sharing of any knowledge and information from going outside the trade. If it was really a liability issue they'd just make the Pro Tech. forum read only to non members. The trade seems scared to death of the DIY trend. I have nothing against the gang over there. They just seem oblivious to the fact that many within their own trade are "hacks" and they also don't understand that some DIY's are perfectly capable of being experts in their own home's HVAC systems.
