This past weekend I went with two quilting buddies to the AQS show in Knoxville. We had a great time and really enjoyed the show on Friday.

The quality and quantity of quilts on show was just fantastic! There were a number of guild challenge quilts in the Ultimate Challenge exhibit. Each guild provided the rules for their challenge and 8 small quilts that reflected the best of their challenge parameters. New Quilts from an Old Favorite featured sunflower block quilts that were some of my favorites in the entire show. There was an exhibit of quilts made by authors of AQS's latest quilt books. Then there were the actual contest quilts with over $44,000 being awarded to the winners.

Vendors included Eleanor Burns, all the major machine companies, thread companies, batting manufacturers, T J Lane Thimbles, many quilt shops, Paper Pieces, and many long arm machine manufacturers among lots of others.

The show was held at the Convention Center in downtown Knoxville which was a wonderful venue. It was laid out very well, with food courts, plenty of "Quilters' Parking" for resting, lots of restrooms, and space so we did not feel too crowded. We stayed at the show for about 8 hours and didn't want to leave.

On Saturday we took in the Gatlinburg Craftmen's Fair and several big flea markets in Sevierville TN. We know to avoid the hordes of tourists in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg the next time we go to this show! We stayed at the Hampton Inn on Pratt Rd. north of the city - which was delightful.

This was our first AQS show and we are looking forward to their show next March in Lancaster.
