Saturday flower garden quilt finished! pics

This is a quilt I made through my LQS class. We paid $5.00 and for that every month (for 9 months) she gave us the pattern for 1 block and 1 fat quarter (at no additional charge). If you completed the block before the next class, you continued to get the pattern & 1 FQ every month. Needless to say, I bought almost all the other fabrics from her to complete the quilt. I had the squares finished 2years ago, finished the setting blocks & started putting it together last year. I finally got it quilted this spring. It took me until this week to add the binding & get it stitched down. It is 104"x104".

Because I took so long getting things finished (and it kept expanding with borders), when I finally put it together I felt it needed a dark border & of course, she didn't have the black print material anymore. I had a small piece and it had the mfg info & I was lucky enough to find someone online that had the 4 yards I needed! Lucky me! Now DH asked if I made pillow shams ... YIKES didn't think of that! I think I have enough to put something together - hopefully they won't take 3 years to complete! ANYWAY, I've named it "Saturday Flower Garden" after our "Saturday Sampler" class & the flower theme of the quilt.

I certainly will---it will be a big mushup of colors. I have the deep reds & purples on the end that gets afternoon shade, hoping to save them from being crispified or washed out. The middle section are various pinks, and the right side in full sun all day are yellows, whites, and apricots. And a massive Folklore, because I had to have that one. The pathway in the front yard also has a rose bed to its left. There I planted, from back to front, Veterans Honor, Kanegem, Perfect Moment, Denver's Dream, Rainbow's End, Love, and Daddy Frank. It should be a lovely mass of oranges and reds.

Most are on their first year, Gil. My Garden Party didn't make it through the winter last season so I wasn't impressed since I bought it as a potted lily. I wanted to put Salmon Star with it. :( I started all of these from bulbs and they have done well. Perfect year for them and my older ones have tripled! 2 sets of bloom on my tiger lilies and they are over 40 years old! Lots of water and tomato fertilizer.....I grew cucs in with the lilies in the new bed. :) Ginny

That is the best picture of MALAYSIAN MARKETPLACE. I keep thinking about getting that one... ROCKS CRY OUT is completely out of my color chart, but for some reason I am really drawn to how different it is. Reminds me of the color markings on Party Pinafore, but in a new color scheme and better edge. Thanks for posting the pic of MUSIC OF THE NIGHT, I think I am definately going to get it in fall if she still has it. It is funny how spiders and UF's change from day to day. I only have a few, but one, GW TOOTHACHE PURPLE is consistent in its form for me, and it is aestetically pleasing to me because all the petals are straight and all the tepals turn to the left. Loved looking at all your photos.

This is one of the prettiest ones I have seen! I was watching a show on TV and the lady said the centers are normally made with yellow, but you can use any color(s) you want. I didn't know the traditional center color was yellow.

Wow, what a beautiful quilt!! I can't imagine all the work that when into creating such a work of art!! You deserve to be very proud of yourself Sue. I love the colors and the theme. Hats off to you!!

Jayne, I wish I could say I did the quilting but I didn't. I was lucky enough to find a great quilter here in Fort Collins - Sharon from Old Town Quilters. I gave it to her & said "I trust you to make it beautiful" and she did!
