The only bacon I will buy is Oscar Meyer Center Cut. I stock up on it when OM bacon is buy-one, get-one free.

I pretty well like them all except don't care for any that are thick sliced or irregularly sliced. I usually get the store brand (Jay-C) when it is on sale for $2.50, but any will do. I also like Aldi's, also reasonably priced.

Wright's Thick Cut bacon. I buy it at Walmart. The standard brands (Oscar Meyer, Farmers, John Morell, Hormel etc.) have lost their flavor to me over the years for some reason. I think they cut corners in their process or something.

Our favorite is Patrick Cudahy 'Signature Somoke' thick sliced. It comes in a plastic container, 20 oz., $5.99 today at Jewel Food Store. ($4.79/lb.) DH isn't happy with O.M. or any thin sliced since we started eating this, but like monica_pa, if I can't get it I stock up on O.M. when it's on sale! On Maui I sometimes get a brand I don't see here, Farmer John thick sliced, at Safeway.

Safeway makes a really nice bacon. It is processed in Canada.

I eat turkey bacon and I LOVE it!

I get a 3# package of bacon ends that are so good, and very little large pieces in it. I only see it at one of our local stores, and it sells for $4.67. The name is Mariah.

I like Smithfield. Fries up crispy. John Morrell, Patrick Cudahy and Smithfield are all by the same company (along with many others including Butterball).

Since we don't eat pork, we look for the turkey bacon. No it does not taste the same--but less fat. I only buy the Oscar Myer brand.

Don't remember the last time I bought bacon. Just don't use it.

I too, like Wright's thick sliced bacon. Makes wonderful bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches. Also great for seasoning veggies. My kitchen would not be complete without bacon!!

Any brand, usually the cheapest. Never the honeyed kind or thick slices.

Monica try the Applegate Farms Sunday bacon some time. It's expensive but really good. You can get it at Wegman's, Whole Foods & Trader Joe's.

I like my neighborhood stores' market thick sliced smoked bacon. Taste alot like bacon my grandma bought from the local butcher. Probably not so good for me, but every year they tell us we are going to die from some calamity or other, but at least I will die with a smile on my face. (kidding) In reality I do limit my intake of bacon, but when I do eat it, I eat slowly, and enjoy every morsel.

Another vote for Applegate's -- it's nitrate-free and tastes sooo good. I don't buy it very often, but when I've had it around, almost all vegetarians of my aquaintance, and even a few vegans, make an exception, because it's BACON. Evidently divine dispensation exists in the name of bacon. LOL.

I just don't know what I'd do without an occasional BLTA (Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato-Avocado) sandwich. Gotta have the 'cado.

Wrights thick slice here too.Sometimes I buy the Oscar Meyer already cooked kind for emergency BLT's.

I'm going to try Applegate. Our WholeFoods isn't scheduled to open until October (it's going to be a monster store - 15,000 sq ft), and the Wegman's in Collegeville is also due for the fall.

But, next time we drive over to Morgantown, i'm going try this bacon.

How do you cook your bacon? I microwave it.

I rarely microwave it...fry the bacon, and save the drippings for pie crust.

I do mine in the skillet if I'm not lazy. Other wise I bake it. I don't like microwaved bacon. Too much flavor loss to me for some reason.

Plus in the skillet I have the bacon grease to fry an egg in if I doing eggs and bacon or want to add an egg to my sandwich.

I get mine at Aldis...its not as salty as some and a good price and good taste.

Monica do you use the dripping in all pie crusts or just the ones for meat and veggies?

Wrights here too...and I microwave and save the grease for greens and beans etc..

I use the drippings for fruit pie crust....not custard or cream pies.

I use the bacon drippings for the corn I get out of our garden. I use a knife and cut the kernels of the cob, then slant the knife slightly and "milk the cob" being careful not to get the husk, and put a little bacon grease in with the corn and cream and cook SLOWLY, stirring often so it won't scorch. Add a little salt to taste. Then get a mess of butter beans cooked with hog jowl, chopped. Sun rippen tomatoes on the side, sliced. Cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, salad w/sugar apple cider vinegar, Hot southern buttermilk bisquits with real cow butter. Fried okra, and creamed yellow squash. Top it off with a blackberry cobbler and fresh churned ice cream. You don't need any meat. That is a summer meal and it all started with FRIED BACON. LOL. And that's the way we do it in the South.

we buy from a local butcher,local pigs.. a bit more expensive, but worth the money and keeping money in neighborhood. I make spagetti with bacon instead of hamburger, saute bacon and onion, use italian spices,
and favorite spagetti sauce mix... sounds strange...
but very good.

Gwaltney, all the way..when I buy bacon, which is only in the late summer when the tomatoes are ripe. I also think they make the best hams in the world.

We have a brand here called that is called Homeland if I remember correctly...I just know it when I see it and it is such good bacon and not high priced...I usually buy what ever is on sale that is meaty...

By the way, did you know, that if you'll kind of bend and twist the pkg back and forth before opening, the slices will separate more easily?
We seldom buy bacon anymore, however, and when we do, I've switched to turkey bacon. Last time was pleasantly surprised to find out it bakes well, just like the regular kind!:)

There is no such thing as turkey bacon. There should be a requirement to call it turkey strips or bacon like product or something. Bacon comes from pigs. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and you can't get bacon off a bird.

I like Wright's Thick Cut bacon or the WalMart brand lower sodium bacon. But since I seldom eat pork, I usually buy Turkey Bacon for myself.

Normally I prefer thick cut bacon. Lots of great brands out there. Probably my favorite is still Oscar Meyer but Hormel Range Brand, Hormel Black Label are up there. Roundy's brand from Rainbow is quite good too as is Farmland. I've had the stuff from Aldi too and it's been fine. For the most part, I just plain like bacon. Bacon and butter make everything better.
