Just saw 'Dark Shadows'

I just came from my local theatre, showing the Johnny Depp-Tim Burton "Dark Shadows". I planned this one-girl day out for weeks, since I found out about this movie. I became a Dark Shadows fan in hgh school, I rushed home from school every afternoon to watch it. Our local Buffalo ABC outlet didn't show it, they ran cartoons instead, so I used to tune in the Rochester station. I loved it! Never really scary, just creepy , with that spooky theme music and the performances- Shakespearean-trained Johnathan Frid as Barnabas, Joan Bennet as the family matriarch, and even the younger actors (Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott, John Karlen and Joel Crothers) gave good performances, considering it was a just a wierdo soap opera! Well, the new remake is very faithful to the original show, I was not disappointed. And the music track was phenomenal-everyone from The Carpenters to Barry White to Alice Cooper. Some of the old TV stars and British Hammer-Film vampire actor Christopher Lee make cameo appearances. JOhnny Depp blew my socks off- so sexy yet "evil". Not played for laughs but I heard a few chuckles. And Tim Burton did a great job re-creating the town of Collinsport Maine and the old "Collinwood" estate. Very enjoyable. I wish Johnny Depp would finally get an Oscar. He's so fantastic in this and so many other movies! If you were around in the 1960's, you will love it!
