I too was a huge Dark Shadows fan. I am so looking forward to seeing the movie. I've heard some mixed reviews, but that never stops me. I think Depp is perfect for the role. Glad you liked it!!

I loved Dark Shadows. We also rushed straight home from school to watch it.

Don't read the reviews, sometimes they give away too much plot. Also I find I generally disagree with reviewers. I have always liked ghost stories and science fiction. Most reviewers don't like sci fi and horror.

I can't wait to see it, loved the old TV show.

Marita, I grew up in Arlington Heights and DS was on at 3:30 and I too also rushed home from school to see it! Gosh, all of our stories are so similar, lol. I absolutely loved Dark Shadows, and the reviews panned it so I wasn't going to see it. But I think I will now, Jannie. Thanks for the review.

That is one soap opera I missed. I just never got into it. Used to watch "days of our lives" and "another world" though.

I've been working outside all afternoon. Came in and watched the 6pm. news and then was channel surfing and came across a "Dark Shadows" marathon on the Chiller channel. But it isn't the old one, a remake? Evidently it had 12 Episodes and I was watching the last half hour of Episode 12. A blond was hanged and then Victoria appeared back in "her own time". Now the pilot episode is coming back on. So far it's in modern times.
Should I keep watching? ha

Our local newspaper's critic really trashed it. Said it was campy and ridiculous. This from a deep fan of the original. I have to say I believed the critique, the promos for it do not intrigue me at all. I knew of the original back in the day but only caught glimpses of it occasionally. I was hoping this made me a better candidate to enjoy the movie. Another vampire movie, ho hum is my thought on that.

I saw Dark Shadows last Friday in a theater with wide screen and a whomping sound system. All the technical stuff was great, the sets were very good, and Johnny Deep interpreted his role very well. Its one of those stories that you either like it or you don't. In my case, I was neutral. My guest, however, liked it very much. She said it held to the original story line quite well and she became a fan when played as a dark soap opera. She said that the lady psychiatrist was an added character that was not in the book.

The mansion and its features were perfect.

I haven't seen the movie but I don't understand why they did all the white and black makeup. I guess they can do it however they darn well please but in the series, Barnabus Collins was not all white...some of the old film was IN black and white but his makeup was not white like that. I just think it looks ridiculous! And then again I'm not a Johnny Depp fan either so maybe I'm just turned off by the casting...HA!

Campy and ridiculous is the whole idea. Even the old TV show was campy and ridiculous, that's what made it fun. :)

I saw it on Mother's Day. Big Johhny Depp fan. Knew nothing of Dark Shadows other than the name. Found it somewhat interesting but mostly boring. Not campy enough for me, especially for that kind of story featuring Johnny Depp.

Yes the lady psychiatrist "Dr. Julia Hoffman" was in the 60's TV show. I distinctly remember her character. But I don't recall the name of the actress. Grayson Hall maybe? She "cured" Barnabas with some sort of blood transfusions, made him mortal again. And that 1990's mini-series on Chiller was a re-make. Watched a few episodes on Chiller channel this past Sunday but found it quite boring. Not much happened.Expect the DVD to come out around this Christmas. But i didn't "love" the movie enough to want to buy it and watch it over and over. Well, it should be on Showtime and HBO soon enough.But it was worth $5.50 to sit in a local theatre and relax for a couple of hours.

I ended up watching only that 12th. episode and then the pilot episode of the Chiller channel remake. It was fun to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as "David". I kept looking at that kid and suspected it was Gordon-Levitt, then finally saw him listed in the credits.
