I have a old one.
This is my Grandmother who I never met since she died when my mother was quite young. My Mother, aunts & uncle are included in the photo.

If I spent a long time picking up pins in a dress shop, I'd just get really good at picking up pins. LOL

Joann, I never met my maternal grandmother either. She died of a heart attack when she was 48, before I was born.

Jodi, apparently so. I would have thought graduation would take place in June. If that's really snow, my mother must have been awfully cold. It's not a winter dress.....this is rather odd, isn't it?

Sjerin, I thought of that. I guess it's possible, but a telephone pole seems an odd choice for a background photo. And I don't know about the bottom, where it meets the "floor".....

Alisand, do you know where the picture was taken? It might have been June or close to, and still had snow on the ground! She and the dress are beautiful!

I hope you will, Hellion. I bought a good photo scanner four years before I actually used it. I was a little paralyzed by the fact that I knew nothing about scanning negatives. The good folks at DPReview, my favorite photography site, persuaded me to just do it, and I did. Of course I was immediately sorry it had taken me so long.

So I hope the pics we post here will inspire others to start digitizing their old family photographs.

Another old family pic. This is from 1905. The woman on the left is my great great grandmother Sinrock Mary, Queen of the Reindeer from Nome, Alaska. Not sure who the other are.

Wow--that's a precious picture, Jodi! Does "Sinrock" refer to a location, or does it have another meaning? I love "Queen of the Reindeer"!

This is another recent find: My stepmother, age 3, with her maternal grandmother in Scotland. The back of the photo says "Marion with Wee Granny." I guess this grandmother wasn't very tall. :-)

Wee Granny's name was Marion Orr Hughes. Her daughter Mary emigrated to America with her new husband shortly after their wedding. They returned with their children--a boy, 4, and a girl, 3--for a visit several years later, but never went back after that. It must have been so hard for the parents in the old country . . . no email, no Skype, no jet travel.

I've often thought the same thing about the parents of American pioneers. To see their grown children and grandchildren venture out in a covered wagon, not knowing what might befall them.

Anyway, here's little Marion and big (or not) Marion.

Susan, I really don't know what Sinrock stands for. I grew up knowing her as Mary of White Mountain. She died five years before I was born. White Mountain is about 65 miles East of Nome.

Jodi, that was fascinating. She was a remarkable woman. I'm sure you've been told your Eskimo lineage is visible in your face.

I wish my "tribe" (or one of them, as I'm quite a mix) included drums in their traditions. Love that sound!

I am loving all these old photos and will have to go see if I can find any to post. Just a note..I googled the word Sinrock and after scrolling through a lot of sites found one about Alaska and apparently Sinrock was a place that MAry lived with her husband...her story is told on the site!

Susan, when I was a kid I was often asked if I was Japanese because of my 'almond' eyes. I don't see it in me anymore though. But, it does explain why I choose to vacation in places like Antarctica and Alaska. And you want to talk about mixed tribes ... mine is Inupiat Eskimo, Castille Spain Puerto Rican, German, Irish. LOL

I knew there must be an answer out there somewhere Ghoghunter, but I just didn't have the time to go through all the sites.
