'My Quilted Life' - pics

Some of you may remember my plan, I think it was last fall, to make an "I Spy" quilt for my interests, what I liked, etc. - an adult I Spy quilt. Some of you even sent me fabric, when you learned what I was looking for - thank you!! This was such fun planning, looking for just the "right" fabrics, stitching up, and now it's finished - "My Quilted Life". I machine-stitched it in a grid pattern. I composed a label for it using Wordpad, and an image of little girls stitching - just need to print that off on fabric and sew it on.

Here's a close-up.

The label reads: "In the midst of a rainbow of colors, each block tells the story of me, who I am, my passions and interests. I am first and foremost, I hope, a caring and sensitive woman, a wife and mother, a nurse, a quilter, a reader, a friend, a gardener. I am a spiritual person, believing that there must exist in this world, angels of one kind or another. The blocks reflect my love of sewing, gardening, my home, family and friends, reading, my pets, good food, coffee, books and shoes. Our trips through the Southwest, and our classic cars are also represented as they are part of who I am today. This is my story, told in a quilt."

So, there I am. (Sorry this is so long!)

Okay, you'll have to explain the hunk in the cowboy hat! LOL

Neat idea for a quilt. I may have to copy you someday.

Thank you, dilly. I like the polka dot, but I agree, it really doesn't work. Here is #3: Here is #4: How about #3 for the outside part of the crown, the solid pink sheet for the inside and for the topper, #4? Then #3 for curtain panels? Maybe a mix of #3 for the bed skirt and with #4 as a trim on it? And a very soft apple green on the walls? I think I need to order some samples to check the colors together.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Just finished a big Easter meal and have been gorging on chocolate all weekend. Oh the calories and the saturated fats!!Will have to be careful of what I eat over the next little while. Oh well, it was worth it. Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday. Marge, the pattern was a web bonus pattern from McCall's Quilts. I can no longer find the link to it. It is just 2 fabrics with each fabric cut into squares and the square framed with the alternate fabric.It was going to be a lap quilt but turned into the Purple Monster. Sally, I have 6 sisters and 6 brothers. Only one sister quilts. I usually just do quilts for their kids but sometimes one for a sibling for a special occasion. ~Geraldine

thank you everyone for your support. i love how the horse quilt is turning out. have loads of different horse print fabric. i'm just not sure if it would be to busy to add them. the bee quilt is a work in process, i'm still deciding on how i'm gonna finish it or just add a border. thanks again lady's. have a great week.. erica

Oh Wow, nice job! Your colors are soothing but not dreary. (I tend to always go really bright, but my quilts are NOT soothing.) I like a lot of different things in your pictures - I particularly like the pieced binding in several of your quilts, the quilting in the cream areas of the green and cream quilt, the beautiful colors in Bitter Sweet, and the optical illusion in Island Chain. Oh, that is truly a wonderful quilt! Making something that reflects your life is rewarding in itself...reminding yourself of the moments and stories..well, it's priceless.

That quilt is awesome! What a treat for yourself and a story of your life for future generations. The fabrics definately tell about who you are . . . and I did laugh out loud when I saw that hunky cowboy! :)

I was sure the hunk in the cowboy hat was your DH! LOL What a great idea for a quilt. We're going on a Mediterranean cruise next April for our 25th anniversary and I'm already thinking about a quilt I can make to commemorate it.

Yup - he's DH - at age 20 - and there's red rocks and Saguaro cactus in there too. (Southwest stuff). LOL

forgot to add: this is a fun twist on the 'postage stamp' quilts that a quilter would make using a little piece of each of her fabrics --- I *think* I'm remembering that correctly, if not exactly describing it coherently.

What a fun idea and so well done, Scrap. (How long did it take to collect the fabrics? Were you able to use fat quarters for all of these or did you have to buy more yardage to get just what you wanted?) Another quilting success!

Alot of the fabrics I had - some were given to me. I started this quilt last fall - everytime I was in a fabric shop I had my eye out for something that would work - especially fat quarters. It was just alot of fun to do - and that is what quilting should be -fun! I also am starting a "car" quilt, have done a "coffee" quilt, and a "shoe" quilt - thinking about doing one with just cat fabrics, too. I have SO many ideas!!

When I got the "cowboy" fabric, DH kinda huffed and puffed, and said "I don't know why you have to have that on there!" - so I've kinda been low-key with it, but I'll have to let him know it represents him at around age 18 - 20 with a sailor hat instead of a cowboy hat. Men!!! It's just FABRIC!

I have been thinking about your quilt ever since you posted it. And I have gone back may times to look at it. I have been trying to come up with the right words to say. I just love it! The idea if it is so wonderful and I love your wording on the label. It is a beautiful quilt that I will remember and think of. The rainbow of sashing is perfect to surround the story of your life. The whole quilt is so creative and moving!
