Wonder if Big had surgery

Chris Noth carried completely loaded shopping bags under his eyes when Sex and the City went off the air. I still thought he was dreeeamy sexy, so it didn't matter to me, but it was very noticeable. Looking at him now on Oprah, there are not bags at all. I wonder what he did. I don't watch Law & Order, so I wouldn't know how he looks on that show, but didn't you notice before S&C ended?

In this end of southern Ca. its pretty common. I think we have 3 Plastic or cosmetic surgeons for every ObGYN. Even my florist has had a face lift. Robert Downey Jr. has had lots of work also, and I imagine the women movie stars have revolving charge accounts at their plastic surgeon. Altho Priscilla Presley must have gone to Walmart for her work.

Hooray, Pam, I'm glad that itchy and annoying bandage is off, at least. Keep working on range of motion, it'll be better a bit at a time. And after you get the cataract surgery, you'll be able to see it too! (grin) Actually my mother, my stepmother and my Dad all had cataract surgery and they all said it was really quick and easy, so hopefully it really is quick and easy! I'll have to check with Ashley's new MIL about those shoes, she works at the local orthotic footwear store, the place that makes special shoes and sells stuff like Birkenstocks and Uggs. They might even be available here in the sticks! I especially like their advertisement about how if you are old and fat and your knees ache, they'll fix you up with shoes, LOL. Helene, I'm glad you are feeling so well. My doc says the same thing, that I can maybe recover faster with PT, but rehab is normally 4 to 6 months and I'll be fine without it if I choose not to participate. As for the stairs, heck, I'm still going down one at a time, so you're probably doing very well. I'm amazed you're getting around so quickly, I can tell you that. I'm doing pretty well too, I think. I'm back to walking to work, and I went to the farm and cut a big maple that had fallen onto the fence line during our last storm. That entailed crawling onto/into/over the tree to cut the ends of the branches that were lying on the fence, and I managed to at least not hurt myself further, balanced with each foot on separate limbs while sawing branches with a hand saw. If I were a REAL farmer I'd have a chain saw.... And I have no problem at all sneezing or laughing, thank goodness, so it appears that my problems are at least dry! Annie

Has anyone ever had trigger thumb surgery?

Oh YES....I've had two triggers. I'm now 61, had the triggers about five years ago and these were the very first health problems since having my tonsils out as a kid. The first trigger was on my ring finger and developed from keeping a tight ring on 24/7 and various gardening chores over the years. Went to PT where they created a four week treatment of wearing a splint continuously (comfortable and waterproof) and administering twelve courses of iontophoresis. Iontophoresis is where cortisone is pumped through the skin with a 9-volt battery on the site of the trigger to reduce the internal swelling. Sounds ridiculous, so if you google it you'll have a more credible explanation. Anyway, it worked like a charm on the ring finger. My second trigger was like yours, on the thumb, very painful and much worse than the first. This time had to use the big guns and went to an orthopedist, specializing in hand, arm, shoulder problems. He gave me a cortizone shot in the base of the thumb (ouch) which did not work at all. So I decided apprehensively on the surgery. What a huge success! It was only slightly painful afterwards but I did keep it wrapped and in a protective position as recommended and did not abuse it as I was determined to have it heal properly. They also gave me a little silicone patch to keep on the scar for better healing and less keloid scarring. Again, sounds ridiculous, but it worked. I still do a lot of gardening but have learned how to use the hands so as not to bring the triggering back on any fingers. No gripping of large heavy objects, no hanging buckets of water from the fingers, to pulling and yanking with the fingers. I also still needlepoint daily and, although stitching is repetitive, it is gentle. A few months ago we helped my mother and aunt move and I could tell that this activity over a long time could have produced more triggers on my fingers. So from one who goes to a doctor infrequently and reluctantly, I am completely happy with the results. As far as your surgery, here's wishing you good luck. Please give your thumb every opportunity to heal properly and please relearn some daily tasks to prevent more triggers. My best wishes....

For those of you about to have the surgery--is there ANY chance you can put it off for a while? There's an amazing new lens on the horizon, but won't be available for a bit yet. I can't remember the name/brand of it, but DD was telling me about it, and glad that by the time DH and I would need the surgery, we'd be able to get it, because it's SO superior to what's available now. OP--if you are your husband's full-time caregiver, and won't be able to lift for a week, can you check into having a home health aid in for a few hours a day to help out? Hopefully, insurance will pay for it, if your husband needs that kind of care, but even if they won't, it's home health aids aren't that expensive (think mom was paying $20-40/hour, depending upon what they did for her. And, of course, that kind of expense would be a medical deduction at the end of the year when you do your taxes, so with a little luck, you'd be getting some of it back. You definitely don't want to chance trying to lift him, if it's going to damage your surgery. Good luck.

ALLEUIA,this is the first i've been able to get on here in several days,since i posted that question about the security alert.After i posted that,i could never get back here til now.I was having severe withdrawl symptoms!!LOL Anyway,i need to have knee surgery,and have needed it for the past few years.Dr has suggested that i wait awhile as it really doesn't last for the rest of your life.So i have done that,but am seriously considering having it done this spring.I too have arthritis in my knees,and i'll be 70 in March. My ds had it maybe 5 years ago,but his knees were worse than mine due to motorcycle/dirtbike racing.He got the knees from a cadaver and is doing very well.His recovery was super fast,He had it done on a thursday and went back to work on Monday,at first in a wheel chair for a couple days,then on crutches.He never went to rehab,instead he had some contraption set up in his bedroom at home as he told his dr,i have a businees to run,and don't have time to be running to someplace for therapy,so they got him set up and he did very well.Now you would never know he had knee problems. My sons dr and my dr both told me i should start exercising my legs now to get them strong before the surgery as that will make the recovery shorter and less painful.So ds is going to bring me his stationary bike and set it up in my sewing room.Yipee!! Saw a tv commercial the other day with a thinner and younger looking Drew Barrymore. She clearly has had work done. I think they all get regular plastic surgery. It is part of the cost of doing business in the entertainment world.

I saw that commercial with Drew Barrymore. I thought she looked great.

In her movies she would sometime look quite pretty and others not so pretty.

Is it her chin...did she maybe have it downsized some.

I wondered why he seemed to look younger! I thought that he had just lost some weight, but now that I think about it I do believe that you are right.

Well, if he did at least he still looks like himself and not a completely different person, like Kenny Rogers.

(Almost) all actors get work done, even the people you don't suspect. Sometimes a subtle change makes a huge difference.

I know if I had the money I'd have all kinds of work done. A tweak here, a nip there...

I read in an article online from The Toronto Star from December that he had lost 20 pounds and was using a skin care line from a downtown Toronto store. He looks pretty good.

His girlfriend Tara Wilson is from Windsor and she and Chris along with her sister opened a tea room for Mom's and children called Once Upon a Tea Cup. I haven't been there yet but I plan to. Chris Noth was here for the opening. There is a little stage in the tea room and the kids can get dressed up in costumes and have fun.

My Mom loved watching Chris Noth when he was on the original Law and Order.

Have you heard of "Botox parties"? They're very popular in the Hollywood/Los Angeles area. Someone will host the party at their house -- a plastic surgeon comes and does Botox injections for anyone there who wants them. I have no idea what the cost is, as I've never been to one...

Anyway, Priscilla Presley had gone to that type of party with the intention of getting some injections that are, ultimately, temporary. But, it turned out that the "doctor" wasn't a licensed physician at all -- he only had a nursing license. AND, he used industrial grade silicone.

The guy was arrested and is, I believe, still serving time.

He'd be silly not to do something. I haven't studied his looks lately but I do remember seeing those bags under his eyes. Who wouldn't want to fix that, whether you made your living as an actor or not?

A few 'tweaks' usually look good but some people just go too far too quickly and others just try to hold on too long - after a certain point you can't fight mother nature.
