Wallhanging done! (pic)

Well, I have finally completed something! It feels like I haven't finished anything in forever.

I went a little crazy on this project and tried three new things: hand applique, fmq on marked lines, and birthing a quilt. I had a few puckers from the birthing, and wondered if I should have cut the backing bigger, rather than the same size. Oh, well! It will prob. go to my mom, who won't complain!

I love your wall hanging...very country, my favorite. You have done a great job on your applique and quilting. It's fun to try new things...I sometimes get myself into trouble doing it, but how are we suppose to learn.

It is not unusual for a project to get a little out of shape when machine quilting...I think FM more so...but you can reblock it by getting it damp and pinning it down square to a carpet and leave it there until dry. Ask me how I know.....

It's lovely. You can send it to me--I won't complain either! It looks great. And I'm with Jean -- love that country look. OH -- I can see your Free Motion Flowers. Very nice!!!! Bet it feel good to get a check in your "done" column.

I love that! You have just added to the list of things I hope to make someday. If the hanging is for yourself, what room will you be hanging it in, and what color are the walls? I am trying to picture it in place. We have a white kitchen with bright Mexican-type colors in patchwork around the edges of the curtains, while a friend surprisingly has bright red walls in her kitchen and white trim, and it looks great. We used to keep several hens and still have a picture I painted of one, on the kitchen wall. We have a bigger water color of hens in the snow hanging up over our sofa. I had admired it and an artist friend gave it to me as a consolation after my mother died.

The Steam a Seam is a temp tacky type of a fusible web. Was told it's great stuff. Great if you are doing large circles or something like that. Not great when you are cutting detailed stuff like my branch above. I noticed the sample picture from the pattern looks cleaner (branches & letters). She probably didn't use Steam-a-seamII!!!! I just about threw it in the trash! Heat-n-Bond is THE best stuff & I need to get more. Raw edge applique is just fusing all your pieces down. Then use a free motion foot & stitch down approx 1/8" from the inside edges. NO satin stitching necessary! The RAW EDGES are exposed. If it gets washed, then the edges fray a bit & adds a bit of warmth to your work. All of the quilting on this is free motion which I'm beginning to LOVE to do! The background is just loops & stipples...MY way. I cannot do normal stippling, so I combine loops, stipples & outlining to fit in with how my brain & the pattern are working together at that moment in time. I think the only thing that sticks out as odd to me is the "gold" pineapple piece on the left. Ah...it's done & it gives it "character". :)

I don't know how you manage with all you are dealing with - but it's a lovely quilt. I love the colors. I'm sure your mother will love it.

Great choice of colors and prints. And impressive for your first try at THREE new techniques. All well-executed and will get even better with practice.

the applique is so nice.. I've never done applique but I bought the Baltimores Country Cousins and want to try it! Hope what I do comes out as nice as yours!
