Paul Reever Quilt HAHAHA I am home....

I have been at my mothers for the past 9 days... She is doing much better but still very weak.. I did work on my on going checkerboard star mystery quilt.. That I will call the Paul Reever Quilt.. You better be on a galloping horse at midnight to look at it. The points are the worst I have ever done... It was a mystery I started in a 2 night class. we finished on block and cut out all the rest.. my points stretched and pulled.. but my mother loved it and followed every step so far... I will post pictures later.. And of course it was a large 90 9 1/2 inch blocks so far.. I will post more when I get caught up here at the house...

Linda, glad you're getting settled... Donna, have you visited the quilt shop yet? I had the first part of my class there on Monday... it is a beginning quilt class, so that, combined with me being a 30 year old guy, the ladies seemed to think I didn't even know how to thread a needle. Until I pulled out my Bernina.... and then threaded it in 4 seconds .... instant respect! I had fun, but will have to go back a few more times to finish... Also bought some best press spray and aurifil thread for the first time... I need a break from sewing this weekend.... I went to embroider for the first time in months last night... I had 3 designs I wanted to stitch out and I went through all the drama of setting for the machine up for embroidery and found out that I've lost my medium hoop... I looked for 3 hours and finally just ordered another one for 120 dollars.... ugh! So, no sewing.... I need a break! But I made this before starting the break! I haven't quilted a thing this weekend so far, and it's late Sunday afternoon. Spent several hours yesterday taking my sailboat out of the water - always a stressful time. On top of that, the temperatures were in the low 40's, and it was really windy. Last Sunday it was 82 and sunny - the most perfect day. Monday, the high was 52, and it was rainy and windy. What fluctuations we have here in in Minnesota. Today we had to tarp the boat and store it for winter. My office/sewing room looks like Hurricane Sandy blew through it. I got a new phone and a new computer last week, and I'm trying to get used to a Mac after years on a PC. I need to upgrade my printer/scanner and pick up a new modem tomorrow. Too much tech stuff! I'm used to having an office with tech support, but now that I'm retiring, I'm trying to get my home office updated. I need to get rid of paper and make more room for fabric. Maybe if I just throw a bunch of stuff onto the floor, I can get a little quilting done. I hope so. I'm really envious of everyone who's going to retreat. Maybe next year! Be sure to keep us updated on what's going on at retreat. The rest of us will all live vicariously through you.

Almost, but not quite the opposite of ritaweeda Dislikes: freezer paper blocks- why bother? skimpy/poorly written directions for a project, wasting fabric, quilters criticizing quilts at a quilt show, points cut off, overly complicated blocks with no apparent overall design element, thread tension going wacko, dull rotary cutter blades, embroidery on quilts, making a quilt label, fuzzy thread, making my quilt back, a messy fabric stash (mine is rarely organized and mess free-I just try to ignore it :-|) Likes: well there's the fabric, and of course more fabric, unique and modern designs, trying new blocks, fussy cutting when it has a design purpose or theme, different quilt top layouts, spray basting, machine binding, art gallery fabric, designing the quilt, following the modern quilt bloggers, piecing quilt top leftover strips for the binding. i sure there's more, but those are my highlights for now...oh I forgot paper piecing is ok, but EPP hexagons...no way - not going to happen! V.

Shall we finish the current 2018 lotto and let it stand as is? i sign up to help Jen, but she did most of the work with block and color selection. It's only fair for us to continue through 2018. I do understand Bkay dilemma, but I'm happy you mentioned this conundrum...good discussion from all. Theresa, I think you hit the nail on the head "shelf life". I'd like to propose the following moving forward: Start off 2019 with a BOM, with one twist... all interested let me know, I'll randomly assign you a month and on the first of your assigned month, you post your block with the link to the directions. Anyone can participate whenever they wish, use whatever colors, fabric they wish, just share on the site for all of to ogle and ahhh. If we don't have 12 volunteers, one for each month, that's ok, we will support the months we have volunteers for and take it from there. i too participated in the last year of the birthday block, and that was fun. If anyone else would like to organize it and kick start it, I'll support. ALL IN FAVOR, OF A BOM FOR 2019: POST A YES, I'll get in touch with you to see if you are interested in Posting you favorite block for one month. Quilters: let's finish up the lotto with a bang! Hi Grace,
Glad to hear that your mother is making progress...it's such a hard thing to deal with.

I'm looking forward to seeing the P.R. quilt as well. Please don't take it personally that there haven't been many responses. Maybe everyone is busy. I know I haven't been able to check in here for a few days myself.

Sorry your mom isn't well. Sounds like the quilt really cheered her up. I didn't see your post yesterday, but I spent most of the day doing the yard.

Welcome home!!! IÂm glad your mom is doing better, but I wish she was feeling 100%. How nice that you were able to spend that much time with her. And get some quilting done too. I want to see your horrible points! I love your reasoning for the quiltÂs name. Too funny. Looking forward to a pic. Thanks for starting all those threads yesterday. I think it helped liven up the joint. Best wishes for your mom.
