Wood edging on laminate counters?
Comments (18)Thanks for the compliment shelayne. Sorry I didn't see your question until now. The floor was the original pine I found under the linoleum. I scraped it clean and always meant to tile. But, in the meantime, I just painted the floorboards a glossy black. It looked great right after cleaning, but it showed every bit of dirty and doggy footprints. People must have liked it though, because the house sold right away even though I never got around to tiling!...See MoreCan you cut 2" off the edge of a laminate countertop...
Comments (7)Thanks for the responses! I'm still not sure if we're going to change the kitchen or not, but if we do... Our kitchen has a 'desk area' that is around the corner and drops down from this other counter top. What I'd like to do is trim off the overhang and take off the desk area counter top...and lift it up to be even with the rest of the counters. This would mean removing the lower counter top and putting new base cabinets in....then placing the top back on. I was hoping to trim off the extra counter top by the range, so that the previous desk area would fit against it. If I do this, I'll also be cutting out the cooktop, to put in a range...which means I'm cutting both sides of this little counter top area. That's why I may just end up covering it with tile....See Morecountertops that say wow or foul! which one would you choose?
Comments (7)Thank you for the feedback. Still looking for more suggestions. The countertop is rosemary caesarstone and it is a gray-green color, I guess almost similiar to limestone. The only thing is the stone appears to have white blotches throughout and I'm not sure how that would look as a larger slab. nishka- Thank you for raising a good point. I should wait until countertops are installed before choosing backsplash. I'll choose what looks best. Even though I'm looking at the terracotta patterned tile by ann sacks. It has a pretty charcoal and paparika hand painted design. Still not sure what countertop to go with. Anyone think of something I'm not thnking of that would be absolutely gorgeous with these cabinets. I was even possibly thinking of soapstone or slate, but not sure how these would work in my kitchen....See MoreHelp with rough, ugly laminate counter edges
Comments (11)We have installed laminate over our existing countertop, and the edges look perfect. It sounds a bit like the edges were not cut and sanded properly. Or maybe the tools that your dad used to cut the edges were not the right ones, or were not sharp enough so the laminate ended up rough. We used a router to cut the excess off at the edge and its important that the router bit is the one used for laminate trim - a flush cut bit. Also, presumably the router bit should be sharp, not old and rough. We also then took a sanding file so that the edge wasn't too sharp. Ours looks great. If the Sharpie by itself doesn't do the trick, could you use a file to smoothen out the roughness? If nothing works, perhaps try again by installing another piece of laminate. There are lots of youtube videos that describe the process. I think that is how we learned how to do it....See Moredesertsteph
