OMG, I was claustrophobic just looking at the pix. Too much stuff everywhere! Granted, a different look from the usual male dorm room, tho.

Nothing wrong with pink trousers on a man, but I don't care for his shoes. LOL

As for the alcohol, I feel sure the bottles are empty, although they were probably consumed outside the campus.

I was never allowed to paint the walls of MY dorm room. :(

I dunno....I've worked at a college for the last 25 years and to tell you the truth 21 year old boys are supposed to have blacklights and posters. It creeps me out that he's wearing pink pants and has a wall full of ties.....ick.

I'll have to show this to DS18 as inspiration for his linoleum-den...

My 21 year old son doesn't have (and never did have) a black light. Posters, maybe. However, he prefers a more classic and neat look.

I think Max has plenty of style and his room certainly looks comfortable.

There are several dorms that have floors reserved for students that are 21 and older and alcohol is allowed on those floors. Doesn't seem like the best idea to me, but to each his own.

As for the room, it reminds me of my favorite English professor's tiny office. Very cozy.

so glad others are mentioning the pink trousers - they are "melon" - ick, ick, ick.... I live in a town where men don these - over the top are the ones that have no problem wearing the ones with embroidered bumblebees and such
yes, he is talented - & likely going places but please put on a different pair of trousers

I live on a golf course, and see many pink (pink on my monitor) clad men walking by. I agree that the embroidery pants are over the top, but I like to see pink on a man. :) I especially like a pink starched shirt. Very common in the south!

Allow? hah! You haven't been in any dorm rooms lately have you?? LOL At my DDs college there are always been beer pong tables in the common rooms of the suites and many many kids have bottles on display in their rooms just like that kid. When I go and visit and just walk down the hall you can see the bottles in the rooms. And of course the trashcans are full of empties.It is definitely a part of college life and don't let anyone (your kids) tell you different. When we visited campuses in many states on our college search, the trash cans were always full of empties. ( although not by the rooms open for viewing by the admin.)

Eh... maybe I don't "get it", but I can't say I am overly impressed =( I guess I like the "oxford green" on the walls along with the art and all, but otherwise it looks like a mess.

He's 21. The only schools that totally ban alcohol on campus are the more conservative ones. At most schools, 21 year olds can drink on campus. Many campuses have events with beer gardens. I'm sure you're all aware that plenty of students drink underage at college, but just wanted to point out that he's doing thing wrong by having liquor in his room.

He went to Choate, an extremely expensive private school in CT. Me thinks Mummy helped fund the interior design. I'm surprised he even lives in a residence hall.

The pants are called Nantucket Reds. They're common in New England any anywhere with preppy style (Charleston, Athens, Savannah, Birmingham, Boca, etc.). My boyfriend has at least 7 pairs of what we call "critter shorts". They have animals embroidered all overt hem.

jeanine, in the course of my sentence at an elite girls' school (4th - 12th), I remember when I first saw yellow/pink/green pants and a matching purse cover--I asked the salesman "WHAT is *that* called?" and I thought he said "Really repulsive"... I laughed and said "yeah, that's for sure!"

I then learned that he had actually said "Lilly Pulitzer"...guess I'm doomed too, idee :)

Bahaha! Are you talking about the purses with the wood handles, flyleft? I think they have been making a come back!

I'm not a big Lilly fan, though I went through a faze in college/grad school.

I'm kind of shocked my boyfriend will wear the critter pants, but he loves dogs and that's what got him started...a pair of army green shorts that had golden retrievers embroidered on them. He is NOT preppy...but he loves his critters.

Anyway, the kid reminded me of the show Gossip Girl...it's full of kids who are very quick to grow up and act more sophisticated than the average teenager. What's the hurry? College dorm walls are for Bob Marley posters (boys) and Monet prints (girls). I can't imagine having a room like that one!

My son's school (from which he was graduated yesterday with his BA - yea!), Truman State University, a state school, has a dry campus, no drinking on campus even if you are 21 or older, and it is NOT a conservative campus. The administration believes that there is no benefit to allowing liquor in some areas or some dorms or for some kids - too much over-consumption, alcohol-related accidents and deaths. They are not allowed to have empties in their rooms on display, either.

Illinois State University, a large public university in Illinois, and certainly not conservative, is adopting a similar policy starting next year.

I don't think we need to go into a discussion about America's drinking culture, but dry campuses are not the norm here.

I am forwarding this article to my sister. Dear Nephew starts college in the fall. We are just hoping that he changes his sheets every 6 weeks or so. :-))))

My husband is very New England prep (he went to Exeter), and even he thought this was a tich OTT. But contrast and compare the Oxford digs in either version of Brideshead Revisited. If Max has a teddy bear, it's well hidden.

When I lived in DC, I knew someone who had Lily slipcovers and I thought they were the most wonderful things I'd ever seen. Still do.
