RECIPE: mulberries

I just picked my first mulberries. I have read through the other mulberry posting but not found the answer to my question. How do you get the stem out of the berry? When I pull on the part of the stem sticking out of the berry, it just breaks off. I see that the stem actually runs almost all the way through the berry. Is there some trick? or an easy way? Or should I just forget about making jam and just crush the berries for juice/jelly? From the other posts, people use the blackberry Sure-Jel measurements to make mulberry jelly so I will take it as a proven test that it will jell. Any thoughts or help is appreciated. Thanks.
