I don't touch my face while in a public place. If I have been shopping then go to lunch, I use the hand cleaner. When I get home I wash my hands with my rings on. I have not been sick in years and I am sure this is the reason. I was sick often before I started using these precautions. I also use a straw when I use a glass in a public place. There is no way Walmart could clean a cart after each use. If I worried about the cart I would not put my children in it.

Our Walmart has a great big container of wipes right by the entrance with a BIG sign asking you to please take one and wipe the bars on the cart down, and also leaves a trash container to throw the wipe away.

I'm old enough to remember when all stores steam cleaned their carts.

One of the primary ways to avoid contamination of a cart would also be a rule/law that children have to sit in the seat provided and never in the cart itself.

Interesting. Realistically there's no way they can clean a cart after each use. Businesses would not do that anyway because of liability issues. People would claim they are sanitized and if they found a germ they'd make a claim. I always said that the only time carts get cleaned is when it rains or snows. But just the other day I saw someone with a power washer actually spraying down a bunch of carts! I don't recall which store it was, I was so surprised. Not that it really matters. I'm far less concerned at the home improvement stores or a discount department store than a grocery store. Super centers come in between.

I think people are too paranoid about germs these days. When my children were small and rode in the carts I had never heard of hand sanitizer. My kids were/are all pretty healthy. My co-worker is a grandmother and is constantly "protecting" her two granddaughters against germs. You guessed it, they are constantly sick!
