BM Frappe cabinets and Santa Cecelia dark granite--backsplash??

Remodeling small kitchen. Santa Cecelia dark granite countertops, BM Frappe cabinets, SS and black appliances, white beadboard ceiling and heart pine floor. My DH think a shiny ceramic tile backsplash in ivory, taupe or gray will be the best choice. I like 3X6 subway tile with a liner but am not set on that choice. We have looked at tumbled marble and glass tile but haven't found the combination or color that we both like. Would appreciate suggestions!

With the granite already being shiny, I would tend to have a matte backsplash. I would pull one of the colors out of the granite that you like and try to find a marble or matte ceramic tile in that tone. In a small kitchen I would tend to keep the backsplash quiet and let the granite standout.

I agree with roseabbey in keeping the backsplash quiet, but I disagree with the matte approach. I just had installed today beautiful ceramic tiles which compliment my light santa cecelia incredibly. My contractor was really pushing the stone ... everyone is doing the travertine and I wanted something different. It's not too shiny with the granite. It's classy and spectacular. Once I catch my breath, I'll post a photo. I put sonoma 4 x 4 crackle tile (butter) as base with a pencil liner and pratt & larson stone gloss subway 3x6 above. I'm thrilled. My contractor was wowed at the results as well. Happy Trails!

Hi there, I have granite with a 4" backsplash of granite and tile above. I like the look but recently changed out my granite and will be going with matte white subway tiles above the 4" backsplash. I think it looks nice and its easier to clean than just the paint. I guess its a matter of taste but I disagree that tiling above makes it look like you couldn't afford the granite to do it all. My counters are a honed jet mist and I simply didn't want that much dark gray/black on the walls. Just a little to even it out and then white above. Again, matter of taste :)

I've seen it called Delicatus, Crema golden, Crema Romanzo, and something else I can't remember. Mine is from Brazil. It looks very similar to daki's Junparana Delicatus (see link below). I think price per s.f was about $21. It's kind of mid range price I think. Something similar is Solarius, same coloring but a little busier perhaps? These names will drive one crazy. I think the best thing to do is just go visit many places. Take your door and your floor tile too. Fortunately where I live you can hit about 20 places in a 20 mile radius. The wall color you just put in definitely has blue undertones. Blue and orange are complementary colors on the color wheel. Complementary colors enhance one another. The blue in your new wall color will make your cabinets and floors seem even more orange. I like the aqua kitchen posted above. But, if you just want to tone down the orange-y vibe without painting cabinets, I would pick a more neutral color for the walls - some sort of white - and paint those. Use some light colored runners on the floor to help break up the flooring color. Maybe put in a backsplash. Then see what you think about the cabinets. I think if you don't like the wood on the cabinets, you should not feel bad about painting them. There is nothing wrong with painting wood cabinets or furniture or paneling that you dislike. BUT cabinet painting is a big job, to do it well enough to withstand daily wear and tear.

We have Venetian Gold granite counters which is very similar to yours and it has black in it. After bringing home several samples of different kinds and colors of tile we decided on black shinny subway tiles. I'm sure black would not be everyone's choice but we think it was the right choice for us. The tile man comes the first week of May and I can't wait to see it.

Would it be possible to post a pic of your slab and sample door color? It helps so much in finding a great backsplash combination.
