Darn...I just ruined my favorite t-shirt

I've had it forever but have always taken good care of it...

I was just cleaning up dishes. I'm a clorox freak. I just noticed it has tiny bleaches splashes on the front of it.

Guess I'll have to get out my box of permanent color markers and see if I have an avacado green...I think I do...see if I can cover some tiny spots.

Have a favorite t-shirt, with a hole on the side, but I WILL NOT throw it away. Way too comfortable!

Seems like those are the ones that always gets a tiny hole by getting caught on something. Or a stain that won't come out. Always your favorite one.

Shouldn't they sell the shirts with the company name/logo ... ... for half price?? (Instead of double ... due to their so-called ... and much vaunted ... great rep)?! And made, in almost all cases, for peanuts ... by (almost) slave labour. ole joyful P.S. I have one, don't know where it appeared from, as I haven't been anywhere within a dozen miles of that agency, captioned, "U.S. NAVY". There's one put out by my Dad's family, that have had an annual family reunion for over 110 years ... and one from Mom's, that began reunions every three years, about 30 years ago (most recent one was at brother's farm in Saskatchewan). Had to go to the drug store anyway, so whipped into Elder Beermans and headed for the CK clearance rack. Couldn't find the rack of clothes. Almost left, then asked the clerk if there was any chance she knew if they had the said top left in 2X. She said, "I think we still have those" and lead me right to them - there was the charcoal color, but in my size? She went through them and held up a 2X!, then she held up another 2X! I nearly hugged her. She was smiling. And I was a greedy puss and took BOTH of them at 60% off. LOL! Now I have three of the same top in the same color. Oh my. I should have left one for someone else. patti43 - I wonder if I should have Googled my local Elder Beermans instead of EB in general? Then I found two other shirts that I really liked. ellendi, I just got home and read your post. I have done that in the past as well, buy something in multiple colors because it fit. Only this CK top in bright red and orange just isn't me. Thanks again all and as I said I'll remember all the tips for stain removal (I've got three to practice on!) and work on the first top to see if I have any results.

I recently found a stain lifter recipe online that has worked well for me, so far: Mix Hydrogen Peroxide and original formula Dawn in a 2:1 ratio. Apply to stain and let set for several minutes, then wash. In your case, it might take a bit longer. It has done nicely on hubby's collars and some food stains on light color clothing. I put my mixture in a small spray bottle. The next day, I noticed the blue coloring of the Dawn got bleached out by the peroxide. Why on earth was I surprised? Well, duh! LOL

((funkycamper)), I'm sorry about your mother's bowls--at least my bowl wasn't an 'heirloom'. The baking dish it hit was a gift from my mother, and I use it often, too. The baking dish wasn't even chipped. I mentioned thrifting at Goodwill--a few years ago I found a luster ware saucer for a few cents. I loved the soft orange and blue colors, even though I had nothing to match, but the next time I stopped in Goodwill I found the matching cup! What luck! I decided to display them on my narrow mantel, with the saucer placed vertically, behind the cup. You know where this is going--when I leaned the saucer against the wall, it slipped, hit the floor and broke in several pieces. I felt like an idiot; the set had survived for 70 years, been separated and reunited, and a split-second bad decision had ruined it. oldbat2be, I cook the red lentils, in a large pot with some dried or diced onion, and just enough water or stock to keep them from sticking, until they break down, then add potatoes that have been boiled in their skins, and peeled, then mash all by hand. As you are mashing, add butter, hot milk, and season to taste (in my case--salt, pepper and granulated garlic.) Red lentils cook faster than the green ones, have a nicer, golden color when cooked, and seem to mash easier than the green ones. I was going to throw in a handful of quinoa a few minutes before the lentils were finished, but couldn't find any, so I threw in some couscous instead, for the bean/grain complement. Cook them until they are thick, remove from heat and add the potatoes. The finished potatoes are still a creamy color with a rustic texture, and no one is the wiser. The one taste that I managed before the accident was very good.

I've ruined so many things with bleach. I had a pair of beautiful black velvet slacks that got a huge yellow stain from bleach. I had to throw them out. I feel your pain!

Can you buy an applicate of some sort and sew it over the booboo? Also, maybe paint a flower or cat or some such thing over the spot with fabric paint.

Patti, you sound like me--have this one top that I dearly love & it has a drop of something on it & I always have to get out my marker & try to blend it in! LOL

Yep done that before too!
I had a favorite black sweatshirt years ago got bleach splattered on it. Black markers are easier than trying to find the right color! LOL Hope it worked for you.

My avacado green was too dark...But maybe it will fade out in the wash.

Tie dye is back in fashion - why don't you tie a few knots in it and dip it in some bleach for a few minutes....

Another cute thing is to stamp the shirt with a rubber stamp and bleach...

And I would if it were a plain t-shirt, but it has a v neck with little flowers embroidered all around the neck.All in the same color...So I don't think it would look good.

I 'spose it's time to let it go...I've worn it so much I noticed the shoulders are a little different color from sun fading. But I still loved it. I felt good in it. Ya know what I mean?

For me it's not what other people think of my clothes, it how I feel in them.

Hummm...maybe I'll try re-dyeing it..

Sorry about your favorite shirt Patti. I've done the permanent marker thing on t-shirts also. In fact, the one I have on now is navy blue, got one little bleach spot on it, used the permanent marker on it, but the marker washed out in the laundry, so much for the word "permanent".
