Looking for dlm2000 - Are You Still Around Here?

While I was looking at your pictures of Wedgewood Gray, I saw something in your house that made my heart skip a beat!

I tried to cut and paste the picture to here, but couldn't, so I'll just tell you what it is.....

It's your big clock, "pocket watch" that hangs on one of your walls in your house.

Is there a story that goes with yours?

My parents bought it for their house in the early '60's, when I was pretty young. It was always kind of a conversation piece among the family. My dad used to tell people that "Jennie [my mom] bought me a pocket watch, but it was too big for my pocket, so we hung it on the wall". I was just young enough that I didn't quite "get it" as a joke, but I knew that story wasn't right either. Everyone loved the clock -- "Grandpa's pocket watch!"

Now they are gone, and I have it hanging in my house. Whenever family visit, they comment on it and it brings back such warm and happy memories to everyone.

I loved seeing it in your house, too. Where did you get yours?

Miss Mary I have to admit, I'm not sure what clock you're talking about! I have a lot of clocks but none are a large pocket watch and the room with the Wedgewood Gray is my son's room - no old clock in there at all! The only one I can think of that *might* be what you're referring to is this one. It this it? This is a big old single weight regulator - 3 ft long with a 3/4 in. thick marble face - it weighs a ton!

Otherwise if you can link me to the thread with the picture you saw...... maybe it was actually another poster?

The snow didnt stay around long so none of the palms got damaged by the weight (once the storm stopped last night the snow immediately started to melt off of the trees). We reached 58F today with a LOT of sun so all that's left of the snow are a few small patches here and there which should be gone by tomorrow. Gotta love march snow storms! Hopefully this is the last of them! -Alex

The chairs came from the dearly departed Marshall Fields ;-) but the manufacturer is Sam Moore. I don't think that exact chair is available anymore, at least I don't see it on the website, but they other really nice looking pieces. Here is a link that might be useful: Sam Moore

dlm2000....Can you tell me about your staircase runner?

kitchenkelly, When we finally got to installing the runner (months and months after having moved in), I was trying so hard to be fine with it--even though I was sure we had asked for it to be wider. Our staircase isn't narrow, so there's enough runner there even with the sizeable amount of wood showing. The runner is 32" wide and the reveal is about 7", not including the wood to the outside of the bannister railings. The installer said something about 6" or 7" being the standard reveal but I think he was just covering himself at that point. Also, our stairway makes a turn, the bottom stairs are wider than the upper stairs, and there are posts that cut in so it was kind of like a geometry puzzle to figure out how close we could get to the posts, etc., and still have it look okay. After the runner had been cut the installer said that we could possibly have had the runner hug the posts but I've never seen it done that way. Not sure how that would have looked and it was too late for us anyway. We're still having a problem with our hard drive but I'll try to take and post photos later if that would help.

Oh NOW I understand! No those are pictures that belong to a friend of mine from another decorating board. I'm storing them for her .....long story. Not sure she ever comes to GW but I'll email her tomorrow and tell her you're curious about the clock. What a mystery! Glad you retraced your steps because I NEVER would have guessed that!
