That is so cool! I would love to see how that happens! Very, very interesting.

WOW, Zipper! You rock!

Making your own wool...

I am thinking more and more, you have to have a knitting camp. ;)

Moni

It would be fun to see it after you knit something, too!
And so nice to "see" you here, Zipper!
JoanMN

DS came home from the east coast for the holiday weekend and brought me some rovings in the natural color from a sheep/wool farm. I want to make some thrummed bed socks. Need to find a pattern. Maybe I will make them for him as he just moved to a NYC apartment that is cooler than his old one and finds he gets chilly.

Oh,oh,oh, I love your hens and chicks plants. I have always wanted those. Tell me how to grow them please!!

Trin

Lynn, go to youtube.com and type drop spindle in the search box those gals are way better at it than I am - I'm just learning to do it ;0) but it's totally fun and since I don't have anybody close who can show me how it's done properly I'm kind of makin' it up as I go lol.

Moni, I'm game and since I heard through the grapevine that you are moving to OKC, then you are on the expert knitter/teacher list and will be lots and lots closer to me (Yippee!!) A knitting camp sounds like a great idea. I hope your move goes smoothly and you find just the perfect place to live.

Joan, I've been kind of pacing myself for a while lol, I've had little kidletts hanging around and playing with grandma and grandpa so it's been kind of hectic but I am trying to find my slot for sittin' and visitin' at the table ;0) - I don't know what I'll knit with it since it's kind of slubby in places and thin in others lol I'm going to have to think on it a bit.

SheilaJoyce I hope you will post a picture of your thrummed bed socks when you get them made I would love to see those. I bought my roving & spindle from the White Rock Weaving Center in the middle of Dallas and I don't live close enough to her shop to have lessons but I'd love to learn to use a spinning wheel - I think lol. In any case your son is one lucky guy ;0)

Trin, I don't have much of a green thumb but sometimes I get lucky lol. I got these hens from DH's aunt who lived in Oklahoma and she just grabbed some out of the ground and threw them in a plastic walmart bag for me lol. I brought them home and planted them in some really holey and rusty enamelware, the bottoms have huge rusted out holes. I bet I didn't even plant them at the right time of year but they are up under the roof of the house and face the south, I used regular old potting soil (not the expensive stuff either) from Home Depot and stuck them in, I was that shocked to see they had chicks lol. They are pretty easy to grow if I don't go out there and fuss with them. About the only thing I can tell you for sure about my hens and chicks they aren't planted deep so they have to spread out looking for their own piece of ground lol. They don't like a lot of water either which is a good thing because I'm not one to remember to go out there and give them a drink *hangs head in shame lol*.

*I will not covet the drop spinner and roving*

*I will not covet the drop spinner and roving*

Tee hee! Whatcha gonna make from your spinning, huh?

You're doing a great job!! I never could figure out how to use a drop spindle tho I did get lessons from a Navajo woman on using a Navaho spindle. You rest it on your thigh and roll it and twist the wool that way. It was very interesting. But,I'm a spinner, with a spinning wheel. I mostly do dog hair. I brush the dogs out and save that nice undercoat, spin it, and make/knit hats. I use a fine singles strand of wool when I knit with the dog hair to provide elasticity and tension so it doesn't unravel. One of my dog hair hats went on an expedition to Mt. Everest. I have a picture of it somewhere. My wheel is downstairs in a closet or it would be calling to me every day. I just discovered knitting socks and am on my 4th pair. 3 for me, one for my grandson and a single for DH to see if it will fit. So if I ever find time this summer between the garden, cross-stitching, and knitting, I'll do some more of the dog hair I've collected this spring. I do have a demonstration I have to give in July so I better go find all the parts and pieces I need!!

I'm always finding better things to do so I won't have to clean! I'm chanting the same as Dances. Looks so interesting to me!

Sheryl

WOW! That is very ambitious!
(I, too, love your hens and chicks!)

Lol Dances, I don't know what I'll make with my new yarn yet, but now I'm chanting *I will not covet Pawsitive's spinning wheel* ;0)

Pawsitive, I'd love to have a spinning wheel only I'm not prepaired to pay that much for a new one - oh my word - expensive. ;0) I did find a great wheel in an antique shop here in town but it was so rickety I was afraid to buy it and besides I don't want to walk, I want to treadle lol. Aren't the fibers real short on dog hair? I bet that takes a while to spin, but it's a great idea - free yarn!

Me too Sheryl, I will do nearly anything to keep from doing house cleaning ;0)

Naw Rita, not ambitious lazy is the word lol see response to Sheryl ;0)

Thanks everybody!

Zipper, move here. We have a group of spinners (and classes) that meet regularly.

I can't wait to see what you make with your yarn.

I have TWO garbage bags of collie dog hair saved...Wanna knit me a sweater???? I had a passenger on several years ago who had a sweater made from their shelties hair...IT WAS beyond beautiful...but I choked on the price..(2,000.00)....

I can't wait to see what you do with it...I would just spin and never do anything with the yarn...I'm knit challenged!!

I am beyond dumbfounded at all of your talent!!

but I just have to ask....does dog hair yarn make you smell like a dog? :^)

but Jaybird..."Smelling like a dog" is a good thing! LOL

At least it seems to be in my House of Harry.
