Vent-A-Hood Ductless ARS range hood Update
Comments (198)With conventional hood systems, the expectation is that the larger particles within the entire grease particle spectrum are collected by the baffles, and the smaller particles are ejected into the outside air, with only modest condensation or impact collection by the duct. To deal with the entire particle spectrum with a filter pack is a challenge, and probably unaffordable in cost for most residential users. If the Amazon rating is based on comparison to outside venting, the result above might be reasonable. As a commercial example, the Wells WVU-31CT filter system is described below: "Filtration Completely self-contained filtration process reduces emissions below that allowed in NFPA 96 and ANSI UL710B using the EPA 202 test method and includes stainless steel grease baffle filter with grease cup, fiberglass pre-filters, high-efficiency (Particulate Air) filter/ carbon-charcoal filter pack. All filters are easily removable with out tools. Air flow sensors continually monitor air flow optimizing performance and grease removal while an interlock system will not allow cooking appliances to function if filters are missing, clogged or in the event of a fire." About $18k. Electric surfaces only....See Moreanother aesthetic question: corner range hood options (pics???)
Comments (7)susanpn- Thank you for your kind words, right now it's an unfitted and, well, undone kitchen, hopefully before too long it will just be unfitted, we are inching our way towards the finish line. The ceiling is doug fir (untreated) beadboard, the thing that look like a track is actually a cedar board, the ceiling is laid in a grid pattern to break up the expanse of the somewhat fussy beadboard. We have a wood hood (without liner or blower) that I bought when a local tile place was changing out their displays. It was a corner installation over a 36" range, sort of a farmhouse-cum-vintage something or other style, and I think it will work. I will post pics when we are finished. Also, as I look at these pics, I see how pathetic the range looks without the side shelving and counters, I will take a pic of that and try to post tonight. sandyponder...See MoreChanging out over range microwave for range hood
Comments (5)Nadine--I think those slide out hoods are going to require a lot of the space in the cabinet above so you're going to lose that space anyway. So you might want to consider a more conventional undercabinet hood, too. Depending on your situation, you may be able to vent directly out the back of hood into your existing vent and not lose any of the cabinet space. It won't be quite as accessible though as you realize. I'm assuming that your rectangular vent is 3.25 x 10" which is roughly equivalent to a six inch round duct. So you need to look at hoods with CFM's sized for that size of duct. Unless you know exactly how your vent is situated, you need to remove the microwave. A lot of hoods will be adaptable to horizontal rectangular, vertical rectangular vent and vertical round exhaust. I know that my Zephyr hood had all three options. Zephyr Typhoon I disagree that you will get 'tremendous' noise. Not going to be whisper quiet but will most likely be substantially less noisy than most micro hoods. Comments (5)A corner range takes up a lot of wall space...48" of cabinet space on each side. So, if you have limited cabinet space you may not want to do this. You also may have to build a diagonal wall b/w the two sides. There may be a way around this, but I'm not sure. I suggest you post your layout here and let us help you w/it. See the "Read Me" thread for some info to gives us to help you. Here are some pictures I made up for someone else asking about the amount of room a range/cooktop + hood would take up: Note: Normally, the recommendation is that your range hood be 6" wider than your range. So, if you have a standard 30" range, the hood would be 36". 30" Range/36" Hood: 30" Range/30" Hood: Even w/the smaller wall (but not so attractive wall, IMHO!), you still lose 48" of cabinet space on each wall....See Moreattofarad
