Smudge is one of our 3 cats. We live in a different apartment now, and it's on the 2nd floor. Smudge and Roxie are allowed on the balcony as they are very content to poke their heads out through the space in the corners where the tin walls meet. They look at the squirrels and birds and any comings and goings.
Never are they tempted to try to jump up and out.
Yesterday morning Smudge was out as usual and then he got pretty excited and animated. He had his head out the space and next thing I know he wiggled and wiggled and got his whole body through! I ran out and he had jumped down and was chasing a baby rabbit.
Smudge is a Maine Coon and he's a big boy. I never thought for a minute he'd be able to squirm through the space. Plus he's 11, and a VERY laid-back cat. Didn't know he had hunting instincts in him!
I hollered at him to come back......well.....telling a CAT to come back here! Yeah right. My fear was him getting hit by a car, but thankfully we live on a quiet street; just homeowners come down here. And it was Sunday.
I ran outside and finally found him in the flowerbed. Do you think he'd let me catch him to put him inside?
He is now banned from going on the balcony! Mind you we have to do an acrobatic act getting the clothes rack in and out, or just going out on the balcony, without letting him out.
