OT - presenting . . . . . . the grad

This is my daughter - I went up to her graduation from UC Davis Veterinary School last week. The face is really washed out, but I just didn't get good pictures - hope some one else did. So I added another picture of her and the "boyfriend" which is a little better. (maybe I need a new camera!) The next day we worked all day (and evening) to get her packed up and she is now down in San Diego doing an internship for a year. She is licensed, certified, bonafide veterinarian! Whoopee - it's been a long 8 years. Just thought I'd share with y'all!

great story, and a wonderful mom you must be!! HERITAGE for me, grows tall and upright, and the flowers are on top, so, I think it would benefit from having some mid size (one to two feet max) plantings in front. here, anyway! I prune her pretty well after flushes, from about 5--6 feet down a foot or two, to try to keep her a bit shorter. but I would think if left alone, she could be 6 feet tall plus! an upright grower as opposed to wide and flowing...great bush, dense as opposed to sparse. enjoy! (hope you had dessert!!)

Coconut - I am so glad you enjoyed your box. I had a lot fun putting it together after I got over my confusion that the local gallery closed for the season. Then I realized I could go shopping in my attic. LOL! The verveine is languishing on my windowsill waiting for spring. I love the smell. I bead a lot so have a large collection of really strong thread - I was wondering whether tissue would survive shipping. Have you ever been to Roosevelt? It has an interesting history. It was the only town in the US with a synagogue and no churches - not sure if that is still true. Ann - LOL! I can count. It seemed like the other boxes were stretching the meaning of three too.... And I felt like I didn't have one big thing. I will do better next time. Mabeldingeldine - Isn't the mill amazing? Did you go to the cafe as well? Or the yarn shop.There are a few of my mom's paintings around the jail and in the cafe. Next time you are in Skowhegan let me know. I live about 15 minutes away. I am thinking of going to the kneading conference this year - interested?

Sounds like you feel pressured to both attend AND bring a gift. That's not good. I'm sure that he feels the same way! If you have to go, perhaps a gift of food....candy, homemade banana bread or cookies. His wife would appreciate something like that, too. Not much $$$ but usually sincerely appreciated. I'm sure that there's a better forum for this type of question. The Garden Party forum is pretty dormant, I think.

Yes! My answer will be long because both are very special in my heart. My parents gave me a Kenmore sewing machine for my college graduation. My mother had taught me to sew so we all well knew the sentimentally behind the gift. It has generated lots of joy through making clothes, craft items, and quilts. In 2019 it began having problems and I purchased a dual purpose machine. But just recently I have decided to have it repaired/tuned because it’s always been a great machine and I can jump on it to do basic sewing and piecing if the newer machine is set up for embroidery. The other gift is this Royal Doulton figurine my sister gave me for my high school graduation. We would go to the mall together and I would stand and just stare at these ladies in the display window. I was absolutely gobsmacked when I opened it. They were expensive! She offered to buy me another - that I could choose myself! - for my college graduation. I never did. Partly because they were even more expensive. But probably mostly because of the enormity of the decision for which one. To this day it is always centered and featured in my hutch. After rereading my words I’ve realized that the greater value of these gifts is the meaning and love they symbolize. My parents were wonderful people and there is no better big sister than mine. Today is my father’s birthday, he passed away two years ago ( my mother five years). My sister is driving 7 hours south to visit. While I’ve been able to go to her state during the pandemic she has not been here since early 2020. So forgive me being sentimental today.

I think the washed out face may be from the extreme contrast of blond hair and black robe. If that's the only poor quality photo don't worry about it.
