Great class with the 'Queen'

I told Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville.com that IMO she is the "queen" of scrap quilts! This lady has 101 scrap quilt tricks up her sleeve. We had a great day-long class today with her. I took my Cross-X quilt top to show her how I made up one of her patterns.

We first learned to make blocks with "crumbs" then progressed to pinwheels in our crumby blocks, then onto Maverick Stars, crumby hearts, and finally letters of the alphabet done scrappy style. She showed us how to get extra blocks by making leaders and enders when sewing scrap blocks - that's two blocks for the price of one, sorta. And she explained her system for sorting strips, squares and rectangles for use in scrap quilts.

All this info is on her web site, listed below. I gave her OUR heartfelt thanks for all the free patterns and info on her web site. She has a book in the works called "Scraps and Shirttails" - can we talk thrift store finds?

Her program for our guild was very good last night with a trunk show of many of her scrap quilts.

Oh Teresa, It sounds like you had a great time. I love scrappy!

Our guild is very small, and the programs/classes are done by guild members. How many are in your guild, It must be large to be able to have such a great program/class.

Well, I just load them on my laptop. I have some 11,000 pictures and from the laptop they can easily be uploaded up here on the forum. My laptop has Window's Live Photo Gallery which for me works perfectly. Even if I take them off of my computer they still stay on the forum. Of course, I only keep on the computer the ones I would like to use or view again, the rest are deleted. In the past I used Picasa but they too have changed and are no longer user friendly. I have found that if I inadvertently moved around any of my pictures in my Picasa albums that they then disappeared from the forum, so I no longer post or actually use Picasa but a good many of my photos are still being stored there but I also have them on my computer I don't download music or movies on my computer so all of my available storage goes for my pictures and emails. OA, pretty cool, the only thing to change is the size of the cells. If you go to the top, and put your curser on one of the lines at the edge of the cell, and drag the curser, it will enlarge the cell so the words don't overflow into the next cell, plus if you have a more wordy description it will now fit. I am glad you knew how to do an attachment of the excel like this, I could not figure out how to "show" it to you all. thanks! PS, the excel in the example that I use is just a guide line for me, you can adjust it to your own personal needs.

I have a Brother sewing/embroidery machine, too. In order to get it to FM I have to set the straight stitch on the longest length. (Most instructions tell you to set the stitch length to 0.) That way it thinks you're basting and loosens the tension. Donna

Lucky you to spend an evening with Bonnie. I sure like her quilts and I'm sure everyone has used her patterns and tips. That was very nice of you to thank her from the internet community.
I am trying her system on a limited basis...I cut the leftovers when a project is done into 2 1/2" strips and 3" squares. I am doing a scrap project that uses 100's of 2 1/2" squares so the strips came in handy. I find just doing this small bit keeps the scraps out of my regular fabric. I plan on a string quilt with most of them.

Janice, my guild is like yours very small but we manage and have lots of fun. We only have a few that are computer literate and they enjoy me showing some of the things we do in this group.

OH, how wonderful for you Teresa!

I just finished the Orange crush mystery from Bonnie's quiltville site. It sure used up lots and lots of my scraps - and that made me very happy. The orange is sure bright, but it was my first mystery experience.
