Best Place(s) to Buy Metal Labels/Markers for Hostas? Cheap?!?
Comments (17)Thank you guys for all of the quick responces! Just as a sidenote incase anyone is interested: I also enclose in each hosta a second cheap plastic label I stick way in the dirt just incase the metal one gets displaced, so I always have the hosta name in a second place. I notice though that even black Sharpie markers do not last forever. And if the sun hits any part of it, forget it. However, if you get their Metallic Silver markers that are meant to write on dark surfaces, these really stay forever. I have had labels out in the sun for years with no fade so far. And, I also just discoved yesterday at Staples for the first time, that Sharpie now has Oil-Based Paint Markers! They are specifally made to be Weather-Water-Fade-Resistant. The pack I got was one Gold and one Silver. But on the back of the package, it says that they also come in other colors, so I am sure you could find black too at some point. They also have them in different points, med, fine, etc. I just thought I would share that while we are on the subject! Christy...See MoreBest place to buy linear drain?
Comments (29)I have been watching your posts, too, waiting to see the shower done. Yay! Very modern-looking tiles! Is that a porcelain version of diamond plate? Very nice. I am still doing my planning. We are not ready to start buying yet. We are getting quite close, though. I have a concern about the linear drains that I do not see addressed anywhere. I am hoping that as you start to use your drain in the next few weeks, or as Lori starts using hers in the months ahead, the problem will come up. It has to do with hair. I lose a lot of hair each shampoo. I used to have a mesh bubble with a metal rim that went over the drain, but I would be ankle deep in water before my shower was over. Now I have a Lint Trapper, made for a laundry tub, stuck in the drain. It catches the hair, which tends to stay low, and the water can still go over the top and drain. I pull the hair off after every shower. The slots in all of the linear drain covers I have seen look like the hair could slide right down and go into the trough. From there, it is downhill into the actual drain. How does one stop the hair?...See Morebest place to buy heat registers and push button switch covers
Comments (5)Fortunately, my house has all it's original switches, but I did get two from classic--one to replace a broken switch, the other to put in the back bedroom which has no lighting fixtures, just wall-mounted outlets! My switch covers are all brass, with a great patina from the years of use. I had to have one specially made for a switch and an outlet, and the company only had shiny brass-wish I knew how to get the finish to become antiqued! For registers, I looked at Reggio's catalogue and wasn't thrilled with either the styles or prices. I don't think shiny brass works in an old house (mine is 1908)--my registers are all cast iron and black in color, whether they are wall-mounted or floor-mounted. Check not only salvage stores, but antique shops as well--a large one here has a whole bunch of registers in assorted sizes and styles--I bought one when I put in an extra register in my living room. Comments (13)I installed Gila mirror on my brand new windows that face south (desert climate). The difference in the rooms is wonderful, no heat, no glare, no fading on the wood floors or furniture. It wasn't the easiest to apply by myself in the large areas...watch their youtube video, watch it again, have all of your tools available and DON'T let the film roll up and get stuck to itself. The corners were a little harder, I had to stick some paper towel to them for 5 min to keep the corners from wanting to release. All summer with up to 102F temps and the film looks perfect. It also provides great/full privacy during the daylight hours (unless you have another window directly behind it...then you can see through but not clearly). I wanted a professional to install a commercial grade film but could not get anyone to return a call since the job was so small. Keep in mind that this mirror film blocks all the rays needed for plants to survive (I called Gila). And no, it does not look cheesy from the outside. With my black windows it just brings out the window frame and provides privacy, does not look like foil or anything silvery that I was scared of....See Morelovetorenovate
