A survey! Mismatched Dining Chairs? Would You? Could You?
Comments (33)Ah! So far many of you might like different elements (chairs, table or even both) but many still need a common element too for a sense (visually?) of "decorative community" ...... I often wonder how I would feel about a table and chairs like the Weasleys --- in the Harry Potter series -- where EACH and EVERY chair is SO different around their long, long pine kitchen table ....... hmmmmmmm ....... Thanks for including photos -- wow! Those Ghost chairs are really cool --- and yes! I have often wondered if they are comfy too! LOL! :) Has anyone been to dinner at someone's house ---- and the chairs were UNCOMFORTABLE??? I have -- and I thought it was just me and my backside (which has way too much padding as it is! LOL) ----- but even my DH commented on them later ..... Jan...See MoreWould this bother you enough to make a stink about it?
Comments (15)Thank you all for your suggestions/advice! I talked to our contractor today who was not happy we called him out on it (to put it mildly...). This is not a small project compared to his other projects he has done in the past - it is the norm. He doesn't do commercial work. He said he can hand sand the edges to make them more rounded since ours aren't super rounded and the machine might round them too much. He said if we wanted to "cap" them that it would be out of our pocket. Said that materials would cost too much. I told him that the easiest solution to make them all match is okay by us. We just want them to "match existing" as it states in our contract. We left the convo with him saying he wants to "try hand sanding" - not sure where he will go if that doesn't work out! Another question - should we be able to see the break in the baseboards between the new and old or should he be able to sand/caulk them enough so that it isn't noticeable (at least from across the room)? They also had a visible line where the new crown molding (all new) was installed and they had a break in the pieces of wood. Is this acceptable? I'm starting to think that since it is the end of the project that he is cutting corners... :(...See MoreWould you bother stripping/staining these solid wood doors?
Comments (26)Thank you HollyKay! Olychick, my momma didnâÂÂt raise no quitter lol. Sometimes itâÂÂs unfortunate that I donâÂÂt give up on some things though but itâÂÂs not in my blood. Now that they are done IâÂÂm glad I kept at it. Marcolo, nice to see you! I donâÂÂt think they looked great to start with either. However, I do like the idea of saving some original things no matter how bad. In my mind I like to envision the original owners coming in and still being able to recognize stuff⦠but with a spin. ThatâÂÂs why I didnâÂÂt take the whole Fred Flintstone fireplace out. I just removed the upper half and added a mantel. The âÂÂbeforeâ door finish also went around the entire house ceiling molding and looked horrible with eight foot walls. The moldings are now painted the same as wall color but in a semi-gloss (the ceiling looks like it grew a few feet higher), except master where the molding is in the baseboard color. ItâÂÂs amazing how little things can make such a difference in this little 80âÂÂs house....See MoreWould this bother you???
Comments (36)Hey the guys got to go somewhere. When our last house was being built our back yard was private. They watered the dirt until we got a functioning bathroom in the house. I have no problem having workmen using my bathroom. It isn't a sacred shrine. We had 48 trees cut and ground out of current home and had at least 20 girls and guy workers for 3 days. We have a bathroom right inside the garage and told them it was theirs to use. I just put in a big roll of paper towels in it. Also gave them use of the garage fridge and also stock it with water for them. One of the first things I tell workers is where the bathrooms are and to feel free to use them....See Moreweissman
