Room renovation - beginning, middle and end?

This is a home we just purchased.

Here's a crude rendition of the proposed window wall. We wanted to put in three windows to match the wall opposite of the fireplace (not shown in the pictures):

After much hard work by my husband, here we are at midpoint. (Sorry about the size, I resized it a million times and it wouldn't listen to me.) The room looks so much better it makes me wonder if we don't have to make such drastic changes to the windows:

Can I just replace the round windows with transoms and do a built in bookshelf underneath the windows? Or, do we just need to suck it up and alter the window blob?
