Can anyone Photoshop what the backsplash should look like?

Many thanks to everyone who responded to my tile backsplash saga - your input has been very valuable.

In case you haven't followed my tile backsplash saga - to make a long story short the tiling to the right of the stove was done very haphazardly and I pulled it down last night. I would love to be armed with an image of what it SHOULD look like - anyone with excellent Photoshopping skills that could help out? I am assuming that the tile guy should remove the range hood in order to tile properly, correct? TIA if anyone can help out!

Wow, did he think he was tiling a different kitchen? I have no photoshop skillz, so hopefully someone will help. Maybe you should just draw it on the wall with a sharpie? :)

He shouldn't need to remove the range hood to tile that section so it matches the rest. Just needs to butt it up to the bottom like he did behind the range.

Can't help with the photoshop.....but have to say I love the tile you chose. I 'wouldn't' go up and over the window. I think it will draw your eye to the window, and don't think that's what you want. Having tile up there will also make hanging WT's a real pain! If it were my kitchen, I'd trim out the window with wood molding and then have the backsplash butt up to the sides of it.

Strait lover, that was me. The tile arrived in a much lighter color than expected but I decided to keep it. The tile is unique and very pretty and I wanted something with an opalescent to it and this has some pieces that are so it won't be too much. I was upset it's not as saturated with color as I expected, but everyone who sees it in person and does not have the original,sample to compare it to like I did loved it. I know it's hard to know by photos, but this tile actually looks gorgeous with that granite I posted pics of. The gray in the granite is cool and that tan gives it just a touch of warmth so it's not so cold looking with the white cabinets. I'm not sold on it yet, but in person it really is nice together.

Of these two options, I like the lighter one too BUT, BUT, BUT and you didn't ask for this, I think long narrow glass tiles might be too trendy for your kitchen. Are you totally opposed to 3x6 matte or crackle tile that so many people are doing (yes, I know, also trendy but they are a better match for a more traditional cabinet style and color.) Or doing something with a unique shape but all one color - maybe grey? As the photoshop renders show, this backsplash will be very, very busy. All this IMHO. I don't want to hurt feelings. Perhaps I am just being too influenced by a designer's color blog that I have be devouring lately. She posted about this exact thing (linked below) and also a great one about the undertones of beige - which are either yellow, pink or green - that is what Marcolo was getting at, not just are the related beiges. http://colourmehappyblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/what-everyone-should-know-about-beige.html (I might add, the photo used in this blog post is none other than GW's very own Beekeeperswife's kitchen.) Sarina, the Bravo 2"x6 " are about $19 per sq. ft. per the quote you received. That is about half of what I am paying for 3"x6" Silver crackle tiles. I noticed 4 of the Bravo colors are "crackle": Silver, Smoke, Beach & Moonlight. Brie & Milk are "gloss" ceramics, Bianca & Capri are "Matte". I'm only pointing this because I was aware Encore had the Bravo line (a more affordable option) but did not realize that some of the crackle finishes were included in this line. This info doesn't help you with the cost of the mini lattice mosaic. The crackle tiles are beautiful if one of these colors work for you & you can live without the mosaic.

Let me tell you I had people ask me if he was on drugs! I think the answer is that he ran out of tile....didn't want to wait until I could order more and he's have to come back...so he made up some story about how diagonal tiles won't stick. He also got a little snotty with me when I asked him to do it over and said he isn't recommending doing them on the diagonal, and if they fall down he's not coming back to fix them....ummmm exsqueeze me?????

Since you have to cut him a new check, I'd pay him for the work he's done correctly and send him on his way. If he gets snotty with you about not paying him for the terrible job he did on the side wall, tell him to take you to court. I'm sure a judge would laugh if he/she saw the pics.

He won't come fix them if they fall off? RED FLAG. He is going to mess up on purpose.

RemodelQueen - are you suggesting I hire someone else to do that last piece? I do know a handyman who has done some small jobs for me in the past. I could subtract whatever the handyman would charge me from the total job...

I'd go right up nto the hood like he did behind, if there's not enough room to the side to fit the tile. If you don't have enough tile to come over and down all the way (like he did but on diagonal) then I think it would look fine to come down in a triangle like your old vinyl did. Find someone else or DIY (Bill will help talk you through it, right Bill?). This guy is just going to mess it up again.

Is he going to come back to fix the rest if they start falling off?

Definitely please NO to DIY! I'm a single mom to a 4 and 6 y.o. and work f/t - I don't even know how I managed to paint the cabinets myself! But I am strongly considering the suggestion to find someone else to finish the job. I don't need to deal with this guy's attitude any longer...and he's made it clear he has no intention of guaranteeing the quality of his workmanship. I know it's gonna get ugly one way or another - if I have him come back and he gives me the 'tude...or if I hire someone else and let him know I'm deducting the cost. Another concern is if God forbid I ever have a problem with the granite counters they installed - I'm going to have a hard time dealing with them. Although why should there be a problem with the granite? It's in, it looks fine, shouldn't be a problem right? right? :-)

Boy thats the worse I've seen in tile work. I don't know everything about repairs and such but I do know a bad tile lay out.

I hope you don't let him back in to do anymore work.

That's exactly what I am suggesting. I wouldn't let someone with a snotty attitude get a second chance! He already proved himself to you.

I hope you find someone that can finish the job correctly :)

good gravy that's nasty! doesn't even look like it's the same tile!
I'd let him know that he has a bad attitude to be in the line of work he is in...and that is why you are getting someone ELSE to redo the job. and that he shouldn't consider using you as a job reference...

is there a particular reason he gave why this wall won't hold tile on the diagonal - but the other wall did? (so far anyway)
