How to quiet 'frisky' neighbours?

I told my daughter I'd post this to my fellow forum members, as I can count on getting a varying range of responses. DD (22) lives in an apartment building and has to get up for work at 6:00 a.m. She believes she got new neighbours above her in the last month, as that is when this problem began. DD is usually in bed by 11:00, shortly after which "round one" begins. She is awakened by the noise their bed makes as it vibrates against what must be a hard wood floor. Within a half hour, the action abates and she's able to fall asleep again, but only until about 2:00 a.m. Round two begins and she loses another half hour of sleep. Round three begins around 5:00 a.m. and DD doesn't even bother trying to fall asleep after 5:30, because she has to get up at 6:00 anyway. She is often very tired at work, as she doesn't get much productive sleep in between their sessions.

I asked her if she's sure the sound is from a bed, as it seems the couple wouldn't be getting much sleep themselves with so much nocturnal activity! DD says she's sure, as after the initial sound of the vibrating bed wakes her up, she's able to hear the couple themselves. If they had an area rug under their bed, it would probably resolve the problem. While DD jokes about their stamina and wonders how they cope with such little sleep, it's really becoming tiring for her, literally. Would you slip a note under their door, or approach the landlord to speak to them? She's hoping the matter can be solved tactfully, without offending them.
