My Goodies from the NQA Quilt Show

Last weekend I met Rebecca Barker at the quilt show. She said it is the only show where she is a vendor. I love her Quiltscapes and have several mouse pads with her prints. This year I bought one of her signed prints to hang in my sewing room.

I also found lots of other goodies. Jennifer and I spread our purchases on her dining room table and took pictures. My favorite item is the "Quilt Pin-Up" that I posted yesterday.

We took pictures of lots of quilts too but I'm not sure if we are allowed to post them.

I am so pleased that the whole family is enjoying the Dipsticks. We love them! I have all of the Marcia Adams cookbooks EXCEPT for the Christmas one that all of you are talking about. I will have to look for that one now. I love Lars's description of the show. The quilts and pottery that she has at the end of the show are always quite interesting. I have not seen the show in awhile. I know that it is no longer in production because Marcia Adams had some heart problems a couple years ago. However, the show was still running for awhile after that. Not sure about now though. Anyway, I am really happy that you are enjoying the items that I sent, and I hope you save a little of the apple jam to try out that coffee cake. Gail

Yes, it is a lady bug...there was one in the same show last year. At first I thought the same quilt was entered twice, but when I went back to my pictures from 2009, they are different quilts, each with one little lady bug embroidered on it. Donna

Dh and I decided to spare each other the 'going out to shop for something you may not want or need' experience this year. We've just decided to wait until the mad rush settles down in the stores and go out and buy ourselves a goodie. I need a new purse, and I'm sure to want something quilt-related from the fabric store when they start marking down for clearance. I already bought a new, more powerful sewing machine a month ago......so I'm not feeling particularly 'needy' in that respect. My Dear G'son pulled my name in the family gift exchange, and got me a gift certificate to the local kitchen store. I have to admit I am as addicted to cooking as I am sewing, and I'm sure I'll have fun shopping there.

Thanks everybody for the kind words. Yes, folks really do seem to love the coloring as I did. Up close one can see these are almost all batiks, each more beautiful than the next. Sorry, it' no longer on my 'handle', I'm in NYC along w/ Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Let's see if this next shot shows it as a bit more turquoisy blue. This is me showing this latest work at our show. Most credit & praise go to Hoffman Fabrics, as it's from their Bali Pops & it's also their pattern, even in the same colorway as shown in their offering, So it's almost a copy, which is why I only showed it to share & enjoy, didn't have it judged. I bought them for me, as I'd become so smitten w/ the collection. The only difference is they (Hoffman) bordered it in teaI, no inner border or outer decorative border as I've added encased in the olive. I saw this solid olive fabric & really had to have it for its texture, it's actually 40% linen & I decided not to care about that. This is also my first experience w/ using precut fabrics other than charm squares. A huge time saver since you can just dive directly into piecing. It was some time ago, but I recall experimenting w/ an assembly technique where 1st one sewed the strips together side by side to abt 10" deep, then made a tube of 2 layers of that. Then using a plastic square ruler on angle, cut triangles of the strips & combined those triangles into new blocks. Then later reassembled newly made blocks like this into larger blocks then rows. Can't say enough abt using pre-cuts --- fun, fun, fun! This was, shall I say hastily sewn, at least its borders were. After work, I sewed all night, racing to finish the morning of submission; technical problems at 3:00 am -- ackkkk. But overall, I'm pretty happy w/ it & hope to actually use it on my own bed. Will provide info / link for Empire's Show Pix in another week or so, when it's posted. I'd like to encourage folks to enter their local shows; scary the first time but becomes fun, is always interesting & you can have some great interactions w/ people!

Nice stuff! I see you bought some twister patterns - I bought both sizes of the twister tool & book last week at our Guild's show--all because of you~LOL.
I've also been looking at the BQ patterns. Let us know how you like it.

What a fun time! Our quilt shows are all in the winter; I miss them during the summer!

Isn't it fun to meet someone you admire? Last Sept. I attended a lecture given by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville. I didn't meet her personally, but it was great to see and hear her in person.

Wow, Linda! You picked up some goodies and are probably anxious to get started using them. I thought the Quiltlet was a cute idea. I have all of my pins on a lanyard and actually wear it around the house at times.....just because I want to. @:)

Magothyrivergirl, the twister patterns are actually the really small twister tools. They measure 2.25 and 1.5 inches to use with 3.5 and 2.5 inch charms.
Donna, last year I met Marie Bostwick, the author of the Cobbled Court novels. I met Rebecca last year also but didn't get a picture with her. They both are very friendly. I would love to take a class with Bonnie Hunter. I hope our guild will bring her in some time.
Sharon, you know how I love to shop at quilt shows. lol I was so excited about the quiltlet that I made it as soon as we got back home from Columbus. It is made completely from my scrap drawer. I have my newest quilt pins on my guild name tag.

I enjoy the big quilt shows. There is so much to see with so many ideas around by the various venders. You can just spend hours looking at everything and the time just goes so fast when you are there.

We will be going to the shows in Hershey, PA and Oaks, PA later this summer. I bet that I will probably come home with as much stuff as you did, Linda!

Yes, isn't Rebecca nice as well as talented? I have bought several of her smaller prints, cards, and was given a calendar.

I almost bought one of those cute small display racks from Quiltricks. The designer is from NC I think. I still might get one of those if I can just decide where to put it!
