Miele Dishwasher Panel Questions

Hello,

I just purchased a Miele 2470SCVi dishwasher and while I wait for delivery I am trying to figure out the panel installation. I have read the install documentation and it shows a single panel, but I would like to match the look of my cabinets and have a drawer front on top, and a door panel below. The docs do not clearly show the bracket, will I be able to properly secure these two pieces, or will I have to mount them on a piece of 1/4" plywood and secure it as one unit?

Also, what is everyones opinion on the either going with a single 23 1/2" door panel, or 2 11 1/4" panels? The dishwasher is between a double door 30" base cabinet and a double door 36" base cabinet. I worry that the 23 1/2" panel will look too big. Please tell me I'm crazy and that it will look fine.

i wasn't present when my contractor did the panel on my miele, but i am almost certain they did not have to add any additional pieces. when the DW arrived, it came with everything that was needed and the instructions are very well thought out and detailed. this was the first miele DW they had ever installed and they didn't have any issues with it. (they did say it was the heaviest DW they ever installed!) i will ask the guys for you if you want. in the meantime, have you tried calling miele's customer service #? i've called on a few occasions with all types of questions and they are a big help.

Hi joet 2009, We had our cabinet guy do the panel work on our Miele a few years ago. I didn't want the one panel look, so I decided on matching the cupboards that we have. I'm pretty sure that he put each piece on one at a time. Here's a couple of pictures of what it looks like.

I bought a Miele Dimension Plus less than a month ago. I went with no handle and front mounted controls. I prefer the flush look and a handle makes the dishwasher not quite flush. I also like to see the readout on the front of the dishwasher, especially to check how much time is left in the cycle. My previous dishwasher was fully integrated with the cabinets. That made it less obvious, but the Miele is a pretty good-looking machine, so there's no real need to hide it. I feel my kitchen looks better now than it did previously, because the dishwasher breaks up the monotony of the cabinets.

I am impressed by how clean my SS Miele looks. I didn't clean it for many months after install. Then I was leaning down one day to pick up some thing from the floor and saw a water drip line. When I bent in front of the DW to wipe that drip with a wet microfiber on a sunny day, I was shocked to see more streaks and some gunky places. These could not be seen at standing height or sitting-at-barstool-height in regular light. The DW always looked clean. And, the spots were easy to wipe clean. My KA fridge is a whole different story. Ugh. I wish it were made with Miele's SS.

Agree with Stan Z's comments, if you have Miele's Concierge group do the install they will do a pre-install visit to measure things, cabinet clearances, power receptacles, water and drain access, etc. I personally have had mixed results with the Concierge installers, however they are supposed to be a cut above any appliance dealer's installers. That point seems to trump any negatives involved. I'll expand on the 'read the install manual carefully' comment, to point out there are multiple documents with install checklists and cut outs (cabinet dimensions) on Miele's US website for their dishwashers. In looking at mieleusa.com, I see that is still the case, there is the 'operating instructions' manual, which will have an install section, and there is an 'assembly plan' document.' If you go to the specification library (start at Architects & Designers), you will find a spec sheet, which may be a third document with dimensions. In my experience there may be a fine point in one manual that is not clearly pointed out in another manual (this is not only for DWs), for example placement limits or clearances on an electrical receptacle (is recessed wall clock needed?), a drain hose length, or back of the appliance clearances to a rear cabinet wall. If you will have a plumber or electrician do some or the rough in work, give them copies of the relevant sections in the manuals, these guys work from specifications and drawings.

Sorry, but I put the wood panel on a panel-ready unit. However, given the general desire for parts commonality, I would be surprised if there were very many parts that were unique to the stainless steel outer skin version. I can also report that taking the door partially apart to replace some panel attaching parts was relatively simple and did not mess with more than was needed. Miele Parts should be able to provide you with parts assembly diagrams. My Optima is now over 10 years old, so there could be many changes of which I am unaware, so I am not a reference for today's models.

I got both a door and a drawer front from my cabinet maker and my carpenter routed out an area on the back of each and used a piece of skin panel to attach them together. The door and drawer both got hardware matching the other doors/drawers so the dishwasher disappears even more than it would if covered with one tall panel.

On my Bosch there were instructions for both one- and two-panel installation, so I don't believe you need anything more to secure them together. The panels are really strongly screwed to the DW door, so there's no fear of one pulling loose or anything.

Thank you everybody for your input. I like the idea of routing the 2 pieces and adding a piece of matching plywood skin, that would allow the two pieces to have a slight gap between them to match the other base cabinets. I also like the look of the 3 drawer fronts...
