Mostly drawers in base cabinets -- what kind of depths do I need?
Comments (8)I just measured mine: 4-drawer stack: 3-1/4", 4-1/2", 4-1/2", 6" 3-drawer stack: 3-1/4", 8-1/8", 8-1/8" This is the depth from the inside floor of the drawer to the top of the opening where the drawer pulls in & out of...i.e., the usable depth. Note: Under my cooktop, the drawers are the same as the 3-drawer stack above, but b/c of the cooktop depth I can only use 2-3/4" of the depth of the top drawer...and in the far back where the cord sticks out, it's only 1-3/4" (but it's only about a 2" x 2" space that's so limited.) My ladles, btw, do not fit in the top drawer! But, my 8qt stockpot w/lid does fit in the bottom drawers. [I have full overlay (face framed) cabinets. Comments (19)The left is mounted on the side panel and the right is mounted on a special piece that IKEA sold for this application. Don't know if they still sell it, but I'm sure it could be reproduced. The center piece is basically a 1 1/2" piece of MDF that extends the depth of the cab and is secured at the back and front to the bottom of the cab. It functions as a short cab wall and I have a drawer rail mounted on both sides. In your case you could position in where you need to achieve your right wall. I hope I'm explaining this clearly enough, but hope this pic helps. I can take more pix tomorrow if that will help you. Comments (5)Thank you. The island is not in front of the fridge, it is only in front of the pantry. And I really appreciate you mentioning the fridge door opening - the fridge I picked only needs clearance of 4 inches between it and the wall, so we put filler there. But this is a hot button for me as I spilled something in my rental fridge recently and had to swing the door way out in order to get the drawer out! Thank you!...See Moreshelf depth in base cabinet
Comments (8)It may be a budget thing now that we have the option of adjustable shelves but it wasn't always a budget thing a generation ago. It was just practical. You can see stuff better, you can put tall things in without sacrificing the entire upper shelf, etc. I have pretty much just drawers in my kitchen but I do have a couple old good-quality hutches/buffets with the half-shelf setup and it is really surprisingly useful. You give up space for accessibility and visibility....See Moreceliaanne
