I must be getting a little jaded..

There is a local stone place here (that we aren't using for various reasons) that sells carrera as a level 1 stone. $42 sq foot. I marched in yesterday, ordered 2 pieces--one from the boneyard at $38 sq foot for my butler's pantry, and 1 piece for the island in my closet @ $42 sq foot. I gave her the measurements, picked the edge. Left a deposit. Went home.

No pictures.

No swooning.

No dreams about them in my house.

Nothing.

It was all business.

What's next? Me NOT posting pictures of the cabinets when they are being installed? Heaven help me.

Oh Bee, you are getting jaded!. You've got an island in your closet and you aren't swooning with excitement? A closet big enough for an island would make my heart not just go pitter-patter, but thump,thump, thump! Enjoy!

I heard that when ya bought any Lucas product--there was a printed warning, it told the installer to make sure that all connections were covered fully with tape, so as to not let the smoke out! Also, if you intended to go someplace where you couldn't make it back home before dark-- arrange to stay overnight, at a motel/hotel.

Nancy, That title is just another song waiting to be written. Yes, there's at least one and probably more, but one which comes to mind is Crassula ovata 'Crosby's Compact'. Depending on your view of forms/species/varieties (i.e. be ye a splitter or a lumper?) these are deserving (or not) of names additional to 'Crassula ovata'. IIRC, C.o. 'Crosby's Compact' is a published (name, that is) form of C.o., and this has been found acceptable (by the botanical naming folks) so it can legitimately be sold with that name. You may know that unscrupulous growers may name a plant something just to market it as something different. How about a picture?

Hi Paul, NO expert here(Far from it) but will share my own personal experience with you...I don't keep my Jades/Succulents as dry in winter because for me that is "my" growing season. Once our temps starts cooling off at night (around mid Nov.) and ours highs hits 70's instead of mid to upper 90's, my jades starts growing and the nice colors starts to emerge. Of course my weather is very different than yours, so that is also when I water them on a regular basis because they are growing...in summer they are pretty much dormant for me. I can't take any chances on mine freezing because my soil is NOT dry, so I bring them inside once the temps are predicted to be 32Â° or below. I have left them outside next to my south wall when the temps hit 30Â° but it was only for a couple of hours and they sustained no damage. Again, this is just my own experience with mine, keeping in mind our climate is very different. Good luck!

Jade Man, Removed from the mother plant in February, the limb's maybe in need of repotting. I think I want to put it in a shallower pot. WW, I had nothing to do with it, unfortunately or not. I do think of it that way, too, so much so that I would like to dub it 'Jughead'. Josh, Your demand is met with velvet compliance from me. Pug, It's my pleasure to keep another Crassula ovata thread going - now if I can just figure out the provenance of the 'new' variegated Crassula ovata, which has seemed to gain both prominence and market share in the last few years. Here's the new-for-me one - I'd just like to find out how it appeared - is it the product of a laboratory? This is the one I've 'grown up' with and what I think of when someone says 'variegated Crassula ovata', but that's just a dinosaur indication.

Oh wait, the word "island" sounds much more glamorous here in the kitchen forum. It's really a glorified table. We removed the "dividing" wall the builder put in there because, well, in reality it only made it have less storage space. I was about to give up the "dream" of an island in a closet but my dh wanted one so he had a place to put his suitcase when he packed for trips. So, we are keeping the 36x21 structure that has the hamper in it. I'm hoping it doesn't look too crowded in there.

Yeah, it's not one of THOSE giant closets you see on Houzz...but it is a lot bigger than the one we left behind. We did learn when we sold the last house that people are expecting BIG closets these days. We actually took a lot of the feedback from the last house and made sure not to have those mistakes in this house.

So, maybe I'm not really jaded. Maybe I'm just ready for this to be over and I've actually hit the wall when stone shopping. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. ... I can't wait to get in there and decorate. I do feel giddy when I go to the house.

Angie, that's funny. But so true.

CK--it's a level 1 at this place. I would have picked it if I had heard better things about their installers, but those Google reviews can just kill your business. I had read someone's comment that they cut the new cabinets with a saw when installing! Yikes. Needless to say this transaction is a cash and carry!

Bee- Sounds nice to me! Anything like this? I've never seen so many windows in a closet, but it certainly is pretty! I think you could have tea, in here :)

I never know how to react when I see pictures of closets that are bigger than my bedroom--and that seems to be fairly rouine when reading high-end design magazines. My house is only 1200 square feet, 2 bedroom, both about 10x10. I just can't wrap my head around devoting a bedroom-size space (or more) to a closet.

Oh lavender, whoa, no no no no. That looks like bedroom that someone converted.

36" x 21". Not that big. No window either. I'd take a picture but you know, kind of dark in there and it's just drywall

BUT, the exciting thing is this--somehow I sweet talked the painter the other day. I told him I really wanted a pale pink ceiling in there. After he got over the shock, he looked at me and said, "you pick out the color and I'll just do all the walls and ceiling for you in it". Deal was done! Since the cabinetry covers all the walls, I won't see the pin walls except in one little spot, so voila...pink ceiling!!!

(SW Verbena is the color, the cabinets will be a soft French Gray of some sort).

Bee- Pink ceiling...that sounds pretty! I think you're right about the picture having been a bedroom...but it does make me want to add a window seat/bench, in my closet :)
