recipe: iso:sweet tasting hot dog meat sauce......

I'm in search of a Sweet Tasting Hot Dog Meat Sauce. It was like regular hot dog meat sauce but sweet tasting. I don't remember if it was red or brownish. I've had it at a local bingo hall that is no longer doing bingo so I can't get the recipe. Any T&T recipe that is sweet would help it might put me on the right track. Thanks christine (internetnut)

This is one I really like. You could try adding some brown sugar to it to sweeten it up.

CHILI SIZE

1 lb. chuck steak, GROUND VERY FINE
1 medium onion, diced fine
1 clove garlic, minced fine
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
Â½ cup water
1 Tbs. wine vinegar
1 Tbs. chili powder
1 tsp. dry mustard
Â½ tsp. ground cuminseed
Â¼ tsp. ground coriander seeds
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. freshly ground pepper
Â½ bay leaf, crumbled fine
3 to 6 oz. tomato juice

In large skillet, cook beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until beef is browned. Add all other ingredients except tomato juice. Simmer over low heat at least one hour, periodically stirring and tasting. Adjust seasonings to taste. Add enough tomato juice to keep it sloppy. Tastes even better when refrigerated and reheated.

This is has been my favorite hot dog chili for several years now. You could make it sweeter by adding more sugar or substituting brown sugar for the regular sugar.

Hot Dog Chili from Aiken Pool Hall, Aiken, SC

1 lb. hamburger meat
4 med onions -- diced/chopped
4 Tbsp mustard -- yellow
3 tsp sugar
2 tsp vinegar -- apple cider
2 tsp chili powder
1 cup catsup
salt -- to season

Break up the hamburger meat and put into a 4-qt. pan. Add enough hot water
to make a thick mix. Stir until smooth.

Add the remaining ingredients. Cook slowly for 1 hour. Can be thinned as
needed with water or beer.

Stacy, you have to let me know how it comes out, and what your 12 year old thinks -- it would be impressive if the palate of someone his age can deal with this much spice! We love classic Detroit Coney Island hot dogs (and chili fries). We now live in CT, and every time we're back in SE MI we make at least one stop for Coney dogs!! Pkguy posted this on a coney thread a while back. I made this up recently, and it's a little extra work, my husband said it was it was worth it! Here's PK's note from the orginal thread: Ok I haven't been doing much cooking lately but it is summer and I was talking to the next door neighbors about the long gone drive-in restaurant that used to be in this neighborhood (now a video and Little Caesars). Anyways, they used to have the greatest foot longs with a super coney sauce. I googled some recipes online, starting with one for the old A&W sauce and it was close but not quite the same. I had to make some adjustments and finally I got it pretty close. I ran one next door to the neighbor this evening and had him do a taste test and he was amazed, said it tasted just like the foot longs from the drive in used to taste. So here's the recipe .. BTW I cooked it in the pressure cooker about 10 mins under pressure and you HAVE TO steam the hot dog buns!!!!!! PkguyÂs Coney Sauce Brown a pound of hamburger then into the pc add 1 6oz can of Hunts tomato paste 3/4 cup water 1/4 cup white vinegar 1 TBSP sugar 1.5 TBPS frenchs yellow mustard 1 TBSP minced DRY Onion flakes,, no not real onion LOL 1 tsp salt 1 tsp ground black pepper 1 tsp chili powder 1 tsp (heaping) ground Cumin 1.5 tsp celery seed 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce Pressure cook about 10 minutes After cooking whizz it with a stick blender or in a regular blender to a smoother consistency then STIR IN 4 TBSP green relish Sauce is supposed to be hot when you put it on the dog. (to be classic, according to my DH, serve with chopped onino and mustard)

I liked the fact that there are no herbs or spices to take away from the flavor of the fruits. I also think that she used a 6 qt. basket of tomatoes because it wasn't the usual red colour and you couldn't really taste the tomatoes. Enjoy!

OMG me too! I thought someone was cutting up hot dogs and using them in a sauce! I was thinking, ummmmm doubt I'll be making that one. hee hee!!!

Here's my Coney Island Hot Dog recipe, which I have served in my 2 restaurants as did my mom in hers, for many years:
1 lb ground beef coked & drained
1 12 0z V-8 juice (Spicy Hot)
1 small tomato paste
1 paste can of water
2 Tbs brown sugar
2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp cinnamom
1 tsp garlic powder
1-2 tsp pepper
1 tsp salt
2 tsp parsley
Mix well, then add 3 TBS of CRACKER MEAL.
Cook for 10 minutes then add 3Tbs of FRESH grated green pepper.

In a small bowl, combine:
1 large onion-diced fine
3 Tbs sugar
3 Tbs wet mustard.

Place the Tex sauce over your hot dog, then spoon the mustard onions over the sauce.

Teresa, thanks - that sounds exactly like a recipe I have been looking for. A restaurant here makes some that is cooked in water and I believe that is it, or very close. They are famous for theirs also.
