A very Sad Day here

We lost our beloved Bennie today. He was 15 years old. Our entire family will miss him so much and my Jaggs will be lost for awhile without his company. Why do they have to leave us?

Pepper is just beautiful. We had a cat that was mostly Maine Coon, and she was a wonderful cat. The day we had her PTS my DD (5 at the time) lamented that she wished she didn't love her cat so much, because it hurt so much that she had died. There is just something so special about a treasured pet. She will truly live forever in your heart. One of my favorite books for children about death is about a dog who died, but whose (child) owner feels comforted that his dog knew every day how loved he was. The same is true for Pepper . . .I can just tell she knew she was loved.

Two days before Newtown, we had a shooter at one of our local malls. Everyone I talk to is nervous to go out to the malls right now. I work for the State, and I worry about nuts coming into our building and firing off shots. There is a young man who claims to have a CCW and he allegedly drew a bead on the mall shooter, claims to have made eye contact but he didn't shoot because there were other people near by. Then the story goes on to say that after that the shooter killed himself. I say this is 'allegedly' because law enforcement has given some conflicting reports. Regardless, if he did or didn't, the mall is posted as a Gun Free Zone...so that didn't stop a CCW carrier. I don't think these assassins chose gun free zones for that reason, they go where they KNOW they're going to be able to cause mass casualties. Another thing I try to point out is that very, very few people posess the absolute control that a tactically trained person has. All these shooters wear body armor, therefore it'd require a sniper kill shot to the head to take them out. Good luck getting some weekend paper target shooter to make a shot like that, much less someone who rarely, if ever draws a weapon. We all like to think we will be in command if an emergency crisis occurs, but it's just not in our nature! Having to kill someone is not something the majority of citizens has ever had to comprehend in real time. And to have the ability to identify a danger and act? Yeah right. My very first instinct would be to take cover and run, get to a safe place and then, and only then, take offensive measures. I think everyone who thinks they should walk around with a gun on their person try this experiment. Go into a public place with a friend, one that is well populated. Instead of your gun, have a rubber band shooter or some other non-lethal 'gun'. Have your friend shout out KITTY CAT! and turn to point to a 3rd person who is wearing a clown wig and has a similar 'gun'. That person is a shooter. Now, whip out your 'gun' and 'shoot' the shooter. Of course, it's going to be at a random point in time, you're in on this...but you don't know when or where it'll happen. Now, lets time your reaction and see if you actually hit the target and/or were YOU or someone else hit. A non-lethal exercise to gauge just what a Dirty Harry you are. I hate that people need to have a gun in the home for protection, but in some cases it is needed, if you live in a rural area where law enforcement is far away. In that case, I'd certainly hope you have a couple of big, loud dogs as an early warning system. But if you have a gun in the home, why does it have to be a weapon capable of shooting more than 6 bullets at a time? Really, if you're in a situation where an intruder has a semi-auto-chances are you're already going to kiss your hind end goodbye.

One death is hurtful to the survivors and it adds to the complications when there are mixed feelings including troubles, for it leads to complications in the emotional reactions of the surviving person where there was distance ... but that does not appear to have been the situation with the father. How fortunate that they had decided to resolve some of the issues related to your friend's family and were in the process when this double tragic event took place. I hope that some of the issues had been dealt with satisfactorily before the situation was put on permanent hold. I hope that your friend is able to deal with the death and mourning in a fairly normal way, without extra complications arising from earlier antipathy. There's a message here for us all, I think - when there's been trouble in a family or among friends, it's best to make a substantial effort to get the situation resolved earlier, rather than later ... for later the door of opportunity may be closed for the rest of this life. May God's grace be with your friend and family as they work their way through this difficult period. ole joyful

Well, I just read an article from a Chicago newspaper. Seems that although they are not closing the Chicago plant they are eliminating 600 of the 1200 jobs from the Chicago plant and moving them to Mexico where they said it is cheaper to make the cookies. BOOOOOO! Will still be boycotting Oreos. I long for the days when things said "Made in the USA". FYI, I also boycott Hobby Lobby. EVERYTHING in that place is made in China. So sorry for the lost of your fur kid. Such a sweet face. I know how it feels after losing one at 14.5 and one at 18.5. I dread the day I have to say goodbye to Elvira.

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Bennie. Just looking at his picture and in to those beautiful eyes, and knowing he is gone from the world, makes me cry. For you, for me, for all of us who have loved and lost furbabies. It is hard, so very hard to deal with. Every time a furbaby leaves us they take a piece of our heart with them, and you would think that after a while there would be nothing left. Not so. After a while that empty space fills with happy memories and that is their gift to us, sent from beyond the Rainbow Bridge.

Mush, I have no doubt in my mind your family gave Bennie a life full of love and in return gave all of you the same, unconditionally.
I think have the gift of an animal in anyone's life borders on a miracle. It was Bennie's turn to return to heaven (I believe our animals go there too.).
At 15 he has lived a long life.
May God Bless Bennie and help your family through this feeling of loss.
When I think of all the homeless and abused animals out there, I believe Bennie was blessed and sent to your family.

I'm so sorry, Mush. My Oscar died about 4 weeks ago and I still think I hear him sometimes in our utility room. I was just looking at some really cute kittens online and am tempted, but what I really want is Oscar. ((((Mush))))

Mush, I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Bennie was a beautiful furbaby.

I know exactly what you are feeling. I lost my beloved lab Cosmo last Tuesday evening. He was diagnosed a month ago with an aggressive form of spinal cancer. I'm still numb and in shock. Cosmo brought so much life and love to our house and now it is so empty. We gave him 12 1/2 beautiful and spoiled years and he did the same in return. I miss him.

Hopefully Bennie and Cosmo are running amuck and chasing squirrels together. Sending you a big hug!!!
