I can relate! I have a number of WIP that take more than one year to finish. I usually put the completed date on the quilt, however, I recently finished a WIP that was 7 years old. The front of the quilt had the date the baby was born. I was too embarrassed to put the completed date on it, because it was so obvious that it was seriously LATE. I figured it was dated on one place, so I didnÂt need to date it again. At least that was my rationale. (By the way, I still gave the quilt to the child and he and his mother loved it!)

I usually put info on my labels like who the quilt was made for, who designed and quilted it (sometimes IÂve collaborated with others in the design process and I always like to give them credit), and the city and state where I live.

Kate (Solstice98) recently posted a picture of one of her labels. It was great. (I think it was on a QOTD thread, but I canÂt find it now.) But here is another link where she talks about including some fabric for repairs  great idea.

Hi Sue! I always use date finished. I also am starting to use small bits of needlework, like linen coasters, I find in the thrift stores for labels. They have fancy edges and are easy to write on with a pigma pen.

Date finished, who made the quilt, who it was made for and their relationship to me and why it was made. Birthday gift, wedding, Christmas, graduation.

I put the date it as finished, my name, the giftee's name and the state where I live.Sometimes you can put the name of the quilt style too.

I usually just put the month & year it's completed, unless it's for an occasion like a graduation or wedding. I think the only label I've put more than one date on was a block swap and I put that it was a 2006 cat block swap and listed the block makers and then put "layout and quilting by Donna" and "completed..." (Can't remember when, now!)

I put the name of the pattern if it has one, my name, city/state and the year it was completed. If it's a gift, I include the name(s) of the recipient(s). Example:

"Ohio Star" pieced and quilted by Annie Kusilek, Galveston, TX, 2008.
Made for Jacob and Carissa Kusilek's wedding.

I often write it directly on the quilt backing if the fabric is light enough in color to show the writing.

I include my name, the name of the quilt and the year it was finished. If it was made for a special reason I include that too. Unless it's a scrappy quilt I stash a piece of each fabric under the label so repairs can be made over the years of use.

Thanks for all the great advice. I hardly EVER make a quilt for me - and the one I am labeling is for me! The binding is cut & ironed ... now to make label & attach & attach binding ... THEN post picture!
