Wasabi peas, anyone?

I just discovered them @ the bulk food store! Oh, my! I love them.

They are dried peas with a coating of wasabi. Very crunchy & VERY spiced (HOT) with wasabi!

MMMmmmmMMMM! Tho' you can only eat one or 2 @ a time!

Hubby loved the Wasabi peanuts at the Bulk Barn but they stopped carrying them. He doesn't care for the peas.

Thanks so much! I've bookmarked it and will get the powdered wasabi next time I hit the Asian market. I think it looks like it should work well. Now I wish I could figure out those crispy, dehydrated okra and the wonderful, very expensive roasted seaweed. I'm addicted to the darn seaweed snacks!

Yes, I have the Opal Creek sugar snaps, got them last year from Peace Seeds. But I have heard that Golden Sweet is the same as the India Golden at Kitchen Garden Seeds. The description says they are best eaten small, and I am looking for something that we can let get a little bigger. I have read blog entries for a gardener in England who has bred a new yellow snow pea, and its sister line, another yellow snap pea, but she doesn't seem to be offering seeds (or if she is, it is to a select few). So I guess I will plant a few breeding vines at the end of the beans rows, away from the peas (so my children don't eat my breeding efforts!!!) and try crossing a few flowers. I love wasabi peas also - both your recipes look great, and I will try both of them, starting with the salad. The sesame dressing looks especially nice. I make a marinade for tuna that has very similar ingredients except that I use wasabi powder instead of sriracha, although I do add a couple of fresh hot chilies because I have them in my yard. Last night I made tuna using that marinade, and I made a sauce for the tuna from some of the marinade to which I add an equal amount of water and a bit of cornstarch. I microwave the sauce for a few seconds to heat it up and to get the cornstarch to thicken it. All we had last night was Ahi tuna and tabouli, but it was enough. Normally I would have made rice and some frozen peas and corn, but I had already started the tabouli. Thanks for sharing! Lars

LOL - no coffee this morning but I did indulge in crepes and REAL maple syrup so I was a little high on sugar. Plus, I think I've finally decided on the look for our bedroom. What is up with my paint store men? They've met my DH once and seem to think they know him; that he will cringe at my color choices. Everyone who enters that store must be very conservative because they seem shocked with all my color choices. One lady saw the Midnight Navy I've picked out for our LR and seeing my hesitation she said, "DO IT! I double dare you. I wish I had the guts to do it!". Word-for-word. How can I back down from a challenge like that? I REALLY love that Slip in your daughter's bedroom. If I can't get it to work in the master, I may do my laundry room (the only room left FOR ME ALONE!) in it and give myself a little glam space complete with a little crystal hanging chandy. Heck. Maybe I'll even put a reading chair & lamp in there with a curtain to hide the washer/dryer. Oh...Bee - Weimaraner, Wasabi & Constellation. I love it. Thank you! Will get Weimaraner & Constellation swatches this weekend.

Hi Kids,

I love Wasabi peas! Love the crunch, love the heat and love the subtle flavor! Easy to pop in your mouth and crunch away. Then blow your nose and eat some more! Yummy...

They are yummy, and addictive. So are the Sriracha Peas!
I will only buy them for special occasions, because I always convince myself that I should have "just one more" ...hand-full.

I like them but only with osimbi peanuts which are sweet tasting, eat a pea, eat a peanut, eat a pea,....

I was in line behind a woman in the grocery store,she stood eating green peas out of a bag. Guess that's what it was. I've never tasted them.

I love wasabi (horseradish) hot. It's the pepper hot that disagrees with me.

Yum! Haven't had any in at least a year.
Had some wasabi cashews recently, those were very yummy!

I like them, but all the ones I have seen lately are Made in China and I don't trust their food products.
