I have a huge collection of stripes and plaids and never use them. I also have trouble with large scale prints.

Me too, stripes and plaids. The homespuns seem to be easier to find a use for. Large scale prints are good for wide borders. I saw a pattern in HOP catalog I want to make using large scale.....seems simple enough to make without buying the pattern.

I'm with Donna. Stripes and large prints. I do use plaid homespuns here and there.

I also shy away from anything with a stripe in it. And there are so many beautiful fabrics (especially Christmas/Holiday fabric) with a ribbon or stripe running through it. Darn.

I guess I just have to bite the bullet and try one anyway! Maybe I'll actually learn something. ~LOL~

I can't take the fact that you guys have plaids and don't use 'em! I crave them and can't get them. ::boo hoo::

For me it's large prints and strong prints with a lot of strong color so you have difficulty controlling how thy "read". OTOH, I love batiks or ombre fabrics that "read" with a variegated look.

Seriously, don't be afraid of plaid. And don't even try to cut it on a straight grain. Just whack 'em out! The subtle angles of off grain will give your top a comfy energy.

I have trouble deciding on other fabrics to use with a large print. I like large floral prints and have some in my stash but find it difficult to co-ordinate them with other fabrics. I always think that the co-ordinating fabric isn't right--that it won't look good with the large print.

I use plaids and stripes in my piecework. If it's a wonky design, I don't pay attention to how they lay, if it's not, then I do put some forethought into it, though I don't try to make them all match up, a piece may be on the exact diagonal or upside down, but I do try to make them be parallel to an edge in some respect.

I have trouble with large prints, because my piecework my be small pieces. So, unless it's a crazy quilt block, I try to save them up for those where I can show them off in the larger sized pieces. Yes also to large grids. I've never been able to integrate them into a quilt yet. I don't know what I was thinking when I even bought them, as they're equally as difficult integrating into a piece of clothing, or anything other than perfectly square or rectangular curtains or tablecloths.

I have problems with "loud" prints that seem to be currently the fashion as well as fabric with ultra modern prints designs that boarder on being crude. I think plaid and strips are useful. Jayne

Well, I'm a day late, and probably a dollar short on this answer, but here goes.

I don't like prints with either humans or animals - decapitated in the seams - ohh, ughh, and I hate the waste of fussy cutting. I don't like really large scale prints, and that includes large grid type patterns.

I don't use the smaller scale stripes or plaids often, but I don't have any objection to them either.

Large-scale prints...so most of the time, I just don't use them, but from time to time, someone will give them to me.
