Pentair EasyTouch 4 w/ 4x160 IntelliFlow Pump

Hi Guys....Here is my problem! Get this one...

My installer (pool builder) sold me on my Pentair package...It was all about the VS pump however, I come to find out that they do not know how to program the unit once it was installed at our pool.

When my system was set up...they have the spa (pool) setting set at 3100 rpm and always on for 6 hours! They said it was the start up speed and the best speed to run the pump as the salt was being added into the pool. Sounded good to me as a start up phase. I had a few questions for him, as he could not answer me...I felt a need to call Pentair direct.

After a call to Pentair I was instructed to change a few settings however, now when my pump runs it starts at the 1st speed setting 750 rpm (12-2am) then step 3 cleaner speed 2100rpm (2-5am). Then back to 750 rpm until the system is scheduled to sut down at 6am.

The system never suts itself off. I find it running at 8am at the cleaner speed.

Any clue...I can not believe this system is such a bear to setup and operate. A big down side to this product however, I love it's green side!

I have a simple 4 stage remote control with 4 relay contacts...one being the IntelliBrite LED, one being the 2150rpm cleaner speed, and one being the 750 rpm spa speed

To start, make sure the pump RS485 cable is wired to the controller and then plugged into the pump. With the controller in AUTO, that pump should be off. With it in SERVICE, it should be off until you hit the START/STOP button.

You will need to check the circuit function of each circuit. You will need SPA assigned to SPA, POOL assigned to POOL and then you can label AUX 1 your CLEANER and finally AUX 2, the specific name of INTELLIBRITE. Simply labeling it pool or spa light will not address the unique functions of this light.

The pump is then assigned to POOL and it is assigned the specific name of INTELLIFLO. You will be prompted to assign a speed for POOL. This should be your lowest flow rate expressed in rpm. You will then assign a speed to SPA and that will be your highest. Finally, assign a cleaner speed that is sufficient to run the cleaner.

Each circuit must be set for the start and stop time. Do not overlap them. Most will start a low flow pool circuit to the desired stop time and then set the cleaner circuit to start a minute later. If you desire a low flow circuit on the pool again, you need to set a second start time on the POOL circuit making sure it does not overlap with any others.

For a 4th speed, assign a circuit to SPILLWAY and you can program some higher speed circ through the spa for extra skimming.

FYI - In auto my system is scheduled to start the cleaning process at 12am (schedule 12-6) showing only one device online "pool".

Pentair had me add a "new" device in AUX 2 for my cleaner speed however when we went to program the run schedule (date & time) I was unable to save the settings.

I was told of a software problem which was around for a short while...Anyone else know of this problem?

The Pentair tech (on the phone) said that a service call would be needed to update my system. Could this be part of my problem?

I'm the kind of guy who needs a step by step in order to get it done when it comes to this stuff. As I said, I'm a little pissed at Pentair for not making this process more "used friendly". Do you know of a guide which can instruct or show how to do your proposed change step by step?

The differential is met when water temp and air temp are involved. You can't satisfy the water temp without the pump being on. You can save tons of energy by assigning a low speed to the pool circuit and then assigning a sufficient speed to the solar circuit. When the call for solar exists, the speed will ramp up and when the call ceases, it will revert to the pool circuit. Put your cleaner speed in there at a time when the solar will not be engaged and take advantage of that too.

Like you I do not want to hear how the watch is made when I ask what time it is but due to the incredible amount of questions on IntelliFlo and the national concern on energy costs I am offering the following information. Hayward VFD is not quite available in my area right now. They are still tweakingout in the desert from what I was told. It's built on the TRISTAR which in itself is a new pump that is not time tested. The only issue I have seen with the TRISTAR is that there are too many guys installing it who know nothing about it's ability to flow water so in time, the oversized HP is killing bearings on the Emerson motor and creating some rather unusual rattling internallt when the filters load up. It is a 6 speed pump that is supposed to take all the issues out of the picture that IntelliFlo brings in terms of not being homeowner friendly. They make some claims that their pump is compliant on the new law where IntelliFlo is not in certain settings. Not at liberty to say anything on that though. If push came to shove, and you're looking for a reliable pump, the IntelliFlo is built on the WhisperFlo housing which is time tested and very good. Any pump from Hayward is always going to be weak but they are using the Emerson motor now which is far superior to the junk that AO Smith is producing in China right now.

You do not use a relay, for the intelliflo pumps. There is a terminal block which you connect the yellow and green wires to. The part you need is a cable with a plug in end on it, that should have been in the box w/ the Intelliflo pump. You need to use the 520106 relay, There are quite a few 24vdc relays available for less, but finding the socket that goes onto the suntouch board can be quite a pain.

Not trying to sound rude, but the manual has good info. There is also a quick start guide on the pentairpool site, http://www.pentairpool.com/pdfs/easytouchQSG.pdf

The not saving a schedule thing was a software issue recently and only someone with the proper programmer can update that. Another option is to send the board to the factory for an update which usually is about a two week turn around depending on your location. You can still run your pump manually during that time though.

In addition to repair guy's post, what button turns on your light? That one will be static, the other speeds can go where ever you want.
