Inset Cabs & Paneled Appliances

Do you really have to have paneled appliances with inset cabinets? Honestly, I don't think it's necessary to hide the appliances and I wanted to go with just the "basics" in terms of fridge and dishwasher. Sound choices, but not over the top. Despite all the money we will have spent to restore our home, it is not in a sub-zero marketplace - houses with typical Sears/Home Depot type stainless sell for $250 sq. ft.

My cabinet guy says "yes" you have to panel with inset, but I know I've seen the face of fridges in kitchens with inset. I just figure it raises the price to have panels and I am working on a tight budget here.

My plan was to go with a Kitchen Aid not quite true cabinet depth french door and a Bosch 18" dishwasher. The dishwasher I might panel, just because the 18"ers typically are sold to be paneled...and that run is short, so less choppy is good.

Can I see your "naked" appliances in your inset cabinet kitchen?
