How long do you wait for seeds to sprout before replanting?
Comments (14)Being the onions are sprouting in one area only and lettuce pieces are starting to come to light, I'll average my temp is near 50 degrees. It's going to snow a few flakes tonight, so I'm putting a tarp over them, with 50 degree weather through out the following day. My yard stays green all year almost even rye grass never turned brown. I know it's not an evergreen, the clovers are still green, the hill I planted on is very high, maybe it gets more heat? I may have planted too deep, I'll wait for one more week, but next week I will replant if nothing else. The carrots should have peaked out, so maybe their is something wrong. It was so pretty outside, I thought I could get away with planting early. Root crops can grow all year round, so I'm not afraid for the turnips, carrots, and onions. I'll try to sprout them inside on paper towels or coffee filters next time, maybe do as the packets suggest by soaking them in water for 24 hours would have been better. I'll be watching for something until Thursday, then I'll start them in an inside garden on paper towels. Thanks for the input....See MoreHow long to wait before pulling everything out?
Comments (3)When your tomato plants get frosted they will die (or at least start a quick downward spiral). It is good to get all of the usable fruit inside before then (the fruit might still be usable after a frost - it probably will not freeze, but I don't see too much reason to wait). The sun angle, shorter cooler days, and longer cold nights are all working against your tomato plants - there is a point at which they seem to stop and wait to die. If it is not going to get warmer your tomato season is probably over. You can pull the tomato plants with a bit of a root ball intact (knock the dirt off) and hang them in a shed, it is amazing how many of the fruits will ripen this way (I grow mostly paste types, different varieties could behave differently). There is a bit of a problem doing this even if you have the extra space, the ripened fruit is of decreasing quality and at some point it will be best to compost them. I hope this helps, best of luck!...See Morewhere do you put things waiting to be ironed?
Comments (22)About 10 years ago I helped out a friend who needed surgery and owned a woman's clothing boutique...I was amazed by the ease at which the wrinkles came out of new clothing being unboxed and hung up in her store, and bought a professional steamer for my own use. When I moved not long after, the ironing board did not move with me. Any item that needs touching up gets done as I need it. It takes seconds. The steam in the winter is helpful in the air, in the summer I find it is not a problem; I seem to need it less often and only for a brief amount of time when I do. I was thinking recently that I should get rid of my iron, as I have not used it in 10 years!! I should say that I 'snap' garments as I take them out of the dryer as soon as it's done, and take just a few extra minutes to fold each piece, then (usually!) hang them in the closet right away. (I NEVER ever have a basket of jumbled up clothing - if it has to hang around, at least everything is smoothed and folded). Some clothes out of the washer go into the dryer for only a minute to remove wrinkles and then get hung up; others get hung up without any drying. This helps keep them smooth and nearly wrinkle free as does attention to not over-drying as was pointed out. I have an incredibly small closet which forces me to be more selective. I used to have a huge problem managing my clothing - for years I had WAY too many items, and would get overwhelmed by their care. Realizing I seldom wore most of what I owned, I've SIMPLIFIED and find managing much easier now. Also, not having piles of clothing waiting to be ironed helps! I will never go back to ironing, but agree that for those that do - ironing (or steaming) as you go eliminates that process.... Comments (4)do you mean repot it.. or plant it in the ground .. big city location might help ... the further you get into fall.. or even winter.. the more forgiving the weather ought to be ... if you are north of the equator ... so waiting if usually not a problem ... [are there lowes south of the equator.. lol] ... the hardest thing to do.. is not overwater a large plant ... presuming you are planting it in full sun.. leave it in full sun.. but it never hurts to shade the black pot.. which can overheat in direct hot sun ...just put something against the pot.. on the sun side ... ken...See MoreUser
