I think I figured out the mouse history and happenings

Since the Wunderkatt herded the mouse to me a while back, I haven't seen any signs in the house of any more guests which is surprising. Usually if there's one, there's 8 or 10 more. I knew I had hosted a visitor or two in the vehicle. My winter hat had a hole in it, some napkins were chewed (up on the visor!) and the cigarette lighter slot was filled with cat food and I know Madd Manx didn't put it there. Kind of a surprise to see it there. My guess is that I probably brought the carmouse into the house with some bags of stuff from the store.

Started cleaning out the van and tossed the bag of cat food that it was eating. Also tossed a big bag of jelly beans. The mouse had quite a sweet tooth (a BIG section of them were eaten) and it'd explain why that mouse was so fat and moved so slow!

It's not common for mice to get into a vehicle. There's been a time or two I've had them in the garage but never in a vehicle. I think what probably happened was it came from a store and I think I know which one, was in the box or something and got into the vehicle, then as I was bringing in bags of stuff later, it was in one of them.

I won't name the store since it's a sensitive topic for some here. I just refer to it as the WalMouse.

Rodents LOVE vehicles; blaming it on the store when you keep "bait" in your car doesn't make much sense. :)

This one tickles my funny bone. My husband will have the weather station playing on the tube and at the very same time I'll have my weather site up on the inet, and the two forecasts can be totally different, especially where precipitation are concerned. We seem to live in an area where the terrain changes considerably from that direction where the fronts normally sweep in. A county above us or to the left of us can be in a crisis snow or ice emergency and we look out the window at a gentle rain with the temps hovering just above freezing. Or vice versa. I remember a couple years ago going west to the next county to get our accounting done in late winter. There was this magic line not ten miles from our house starting at a state park, when we all the sudden encountered massive trees keeled over from a hideous ice storm we never received and large areas of ice from flooding. It was massive destruction and our accountant told us of being homebound over Christmas with no power for days. We were totally oblivious to the whole episode. It missed us entirely.

We are getting off the topic, but I remember the lush yard of my childhood w/ all the clover and watching the honeybees, and the exciting days when we would take the honey out of the hives... I planted clover and I wish all the weedy grass would go away! (No neighbors are going to care here as our lots are set in the middle of woods, and we are out in the country.) My clover has had a tough time (doesn't like sand?), but there is one low-growing weed that I am encouraging as it does not need to be mowed. No mowing is my goal. As for my clems (many of which you all enabled!), they are doing fairly well. I was most impressed w/ Arabella- the best bloomer! I have mostly watered from my rain barrels this summer and it is not very satisfactory because the sand soaks up the moisture so fast (great for watering pots and small areas though). I too have to figure out where to plant the ones I stuck in pots in the spring. Most are going into the rose garden (if the roses don't make it maybe the clems will). I have planted several to climb up my deck railings. I know there is a lot of controversy about adding soil amendments, but I am with the other readers who see the fence as a prime planting ground. Maybe someone who knows more about amendments could help out? I wish you the best of luck in finding them a good place, and would appreciate it if you will wish me luck as well. Thanks, Brandy

I guess I have Bookworm shoulder, or rather had. My right shoulder has always been a tad lower than my left shoulder. I finally figured that out years ago when I started making some of my own clothes. I always had a slight pain in that shoulder. When I discovered Bookworm, I got very addicted to the game. This Spring I decided to take it off of the PC so I wouldn't be tempted. After a while I realized my shoulder was hurting less and less. I may never put Bookworm back on. Strange what these computers can do to us! Sue

I also think re-potting them separately would be a good idea. If it were me, I'd use a knife and nick or scrape most of the stems near the bottom. I might even apply some rooting hormone powder to the place I scraped/nicked. Then, I'd bury it deeper, with potting mix covering the scraped/nicked areas on the stems. Give it a couple months, and you could carefully dig things up. If the branches have rooted, you can cut them away from the main plant and have more plants that way. Also, rosemary and sage need really good drainage, and really don't need as much organic material and fertilizer. I add sand or perlite to 'potting mix' for rosemary and sage, about two parts potting mix to one part sand and/or perlite. You can also use commercial "cactus potting mix" if you don't want to mix your own.

We have had them in our cars in CA, up in the mountains where we use to live. Cold climate, and car not used much.. Even put traps and decon and moth balls. Got int the heater vent etc Of course had cats but they like to share.

Things get forgotten in the vehicle at times. For the cat food, it just been a better storage place. It's better to keep it in a cooler spot. And I've never seen a vehicle that's used regularly get the mice in it which I why I'm convinced that it came in from a store. Vehicles left in the weeds, yes, but not vehicles that are used. I just haven't seen it happen. If it was "bait" and the mice were out there, common sense tells me that surely there'd be more than one.

To me, blaming the supplier of the rodent makes perfect sense! :)

Ah - we have a lot of issues with mice in our trucks and tractors in the winter. It can cause some real issues with electrical wires - not to mention the mess they leave behind.

We had lots of trouble with mice getting in vehicles when we lived on a farm, so did my mom and dad and in vehicles we drove every day of the world. It was worse in the winter.... and we did not keep any type of food in our vehicles....once we were going to town in my Cadillac and it just wouldn't run, step on the gas and it would just bog down. We made it to Walmart, pulled in and my husband took the top of the air filter off and the whole compartment was just stuffed with sunflower seeds from the bird feeders. My dad used to find dog food stuffed different places in his truck, along with chewed wires, they can do a lot of damage to a vehicle.

I still disagree with you, Cynic. We have had mice in our frequently used vehicles, which are parked in our garage. It happens. When we leave our vehicles for a while without using them, we do set traps in them and have caught a few mice.

But keeping a clean vehicle would surely help keep them out. I can't imagine leaving food in a vehicle for any reason... But that's me. I'm anal about keeping my vehicles clean. :)

Mice can get into vehicles ... and cause damage.

Chewed my phone cord in the house a while ago, causing me to conclude that the old cordless phone that son had given me when he upgraded ...

... see, there's value in having offspring who are interested in electronic gadgets ...

... had given up the ghost.

Found out differently when I traced the cord back to the wall jack - dratted mouse had chewed through wires as well.

Dang mouse repeated the game - and with a fancier cord!
