Well today DH and I went to Walmart to pick up some things for you know who LOL and when we were there DH said lets look in the fabric dept SO WE DID!

I BOUGHT 2 BOLTS OF TAPESTRY FABRIC:

I bought this for the living room DH liked it I am going to make shades for the windows and maybe drapes to match.

This is the front of the fabric

Now this is the kicker DH doesn't think we meed to use drapery lining for the blinds or drapes because he likes the looks of the back of the fabric but I not to sure of that.....I have to go to Joann's to pick up some upholstery thread and I want to pick up some grossgrain ribbon

Sunday they are having a sale so that is when I will go .

So what is your opinion's on no drapery lining so I can tell Martha Stewart(DH) hehehe!

I would line them,they will look more professional,and look more uniform from the outside.Have you made shades before?? If so did you use the wonder shade on the back??

The sun is merciless on fabric. I would definately recommend lining your window treatments to prevent fading and eventual rotting of your hard work. They will also fall better when lined.

If you're planning on making roller shades, there's a product called Create-a-Shade that's a heavy iron-on backing made especially for that purpose. You need a large, smooth surface to work on; your ironing board will create bumps as the piece drapes over the side.

If you're considering Roman Shades, a good drapery lining fabric will be fine.

well, I'll tell you a secret... those can be made from a bag of clay. the kind you need to have fired at cone '6' at a ceramic supply store, buy a bag of the clay... go home and make those shapes, let them dry glaze them..well, there's a bit more of a cost but at a place where you can use their supplies, then you can have it fired there, also way less in the long run and you make it yourself. print out the picture and do your own changes and touches. I've got ceramic glazed mobiles from my kids, and other things that I've made. I make them and take them to the place to have them fired. I don't alway want glaze on things. I like the terra cotta look and feel and maybe the light sandy color, with a bit of roughness to it. no need to send away for someone else's fun work. I gave one son an insense holder, that I made..it started out as a torso and ended up as a 'conversation piece'.. he loved it.. cheap and easy...it cost a couple of dollars to have it fired natural...no glaze. You might want to hang on to a few of those pieces just for their value alone. I have a red fairy light too & they were going for around $15-$25 at a flea market last year. I found one for $2 at a GS nearby. I was thinking plate flowers too when I seen the blue pieces & the small plates. Ya done good with this haul, & to think, there's more that's not here!

Marcia---Yes, those banana plants are mine. Here is a picture I posted last July showing my newly planted 2 dozen blueberries. The bananas are behind them. The pummelo tree is to the left. Anna---I do feel so lucky to have my 2 acres. I just love to be out working in my yard. Sometimes I stay out there all day. coffeemom---I almost forgot to mention, you got me laughing! My husband isn't into gardening, but he will do the heavy work that I am not physically able to do myself. I leave the tree dropping to him. As for my powers, my powers are that he says that he benefits from the veggie garden. He will eat the vegetables but he won't eat any fruit except the oranges and pineapples. I would like to say peaches but the squirrels get them first. Tom---That's not my back yard--it's my front yard, near the street. My house is located toward the back of the property. My yard is designed backwards. I don't mind because it does help with privacy. Tom, I would love to trade cuttings. I can root the poinsettia for you first before mailing it. I realize that the plumeria doesn't need to be rooted first. Today I got some tree dahlia cuttings that I potted up. If you are interested in one of those, I can include that too. The mother plant I saw was 5-6 feet tall. It is a background plant for sure. Christine

hi jen! in rereading what i wrote, i can see i wasn't being clear at all--sorry. i made the marinated mozarella on sunday because i think it's best after it's had a chance to sit around for awhile. i don't like tomatoes after they have been refrigerated (our tomatoes always sit on the counter until we are ready to eat them...) so i took the marinated cheese out of the fridge wednesday morning and added the tomato halves to the dish of marinated cheese then (the olive oil is sort of firm--needs some time to warm up). then i just skewered a piece of cheese, a basil leaf and a chunk of tomato onto the toothpick. you certainly could use long skewers and put multiple pieces on but this just made a perfect little bite and the fresh leaf was a nice bit of some crunch in an otherwise rather soft bit of food... there were lots of dishes to choose from but both this and the stuffed ricotta pie went very quickly!

Red, You sure done good! The fabric is gorgeous and if "you know who" helped pick it out, she has good taste...What I want to know, when do you take a time out? You don't sleep, you're always on the go or doing something...A normal day has 24 hours, how many does your's have?

Thanks I agree a lining I am not making Roman Shades.I have idea in my head what I am going to make LOL! Dorothy, you know who was home LOL! Dian were do you find Create-a-Shade? Kathi I never used wonder shade when I goggled it I found it was discontinued?

Guess that shows how long since i've seen it.We used to sell it at the fabric store i worked at,but i havn't worked for 9 years now.My oh my,where did that time go???

I would line them. It makes them look more professionally made and helps keep them from fading from the sun. Colleen

I am going to apply a lining to them. I just bought some lining off ebay.

Red, glad you decided on the lining. Light will show thorugh the weave on the tapestry. What color did you get for the lining? I have a tapestry I made a valance for in my sewing room..it is a darker fabric and I used muslin for the backing....well, the sunlight still shows through it, and in the daylight I can't see the fabric pattern at all. So, they only look good at night!! Wish now I'd have used black as my backing.
Great looking fabric by the way! Glad you found something you liked..and that they had enough yardage!

I got white for the light color tapestry for you know who's room.I got that for the drapes...I will have enough lining to make the shade but I am playing with the idea of adding a color backing...I have idea in my head what I want to make LOL.

I think you know who's fabric is light enough and that the white will work. And, since drapes usually have more folds in them, that helps too with show-through.

I do the same thing...design in my head. I've never bought a curtain/drape pattern..and I think they all turned out great. I like things that are different from everyone else, and sewing makes that happen.

Red--last time I bought Create-A-Shade was at Joann's many years ago. If they don't carry that specific project, I'm sure they have another made for that purpose.

Roller fabric shades work up pretty quickly. Remember to use fray check on the edges. Also it is imperative that you square your fabric or it will never hang correctly.
