I wish I had pictures to show you. Our cabin had a similar problem with that stained woodwork that I didn't want to change.

We painted the main room Valspar Sand II and we did the fireplace as an accent wall in BM Kona I think.
BM Affinity's line has three or four dark browns, Kona looks like milk chocolate, French Press and Barrista are dark chocolate/coffee bean color, one has almost a purplish undertone. You have to experiment with your stone, your stone looks very different than ours, and you may not actually want as dark a color as we used.

The problem I had, and I think you may have is matching up the stone and the oak stained woodwork. I'm not sure you will happy with that sophisticated taupe against the warm oak trim. What color is the mortar on the fireplace?

I do like that shade in the first photo, and if you look closely in the inspiration picture, you can see that the floor has organge tones too. BUT . . . as many here will attest to, paint colors are challenging. You could buy some samples and paint large pieces of posterboard. Tape those on the wall, and that will give you a much better idea in your space and lighting.

cangelmd, I did find a nice brown-taupey color that looked fine with the stone and worked with the wood tone as well. It looked nice but I'm not sure it gives off the 'oomph' that I would like to have.

jan, the grout varies. I never really noticed until you asked, but it goes from taupey to more gray. I guess who ever mixed the grout didn't pay much attention.

Whatever color you choose, and I do like the browns/taupes, I would paint all the walls the same color. I think the the fireplace is a strong accent in itself.

I like the first inspiration photo. It looks like it really works with the grout. Go get samples! Look at the Affinity colors in BM, like Weimeraner, or something even darker. Also the colors on the Baltic Gray strip, like Eagle Rock might work too. That is what I just painted the laundry room and it is gray, but it has a taupe undertone which would help work with the rocks.

Your room is dramatic, and with that subtle but bold color it'll really cozy/warm up your space. Plus, if you're keeping your love seat? I think it should look good with it.

All of your inspiration pictures have tons of white to contrast against the dark wall colors. I'm not sure you're going to get the same result with your dark woodwork and furniture, if that's the look you're going for.
