Not the gray (or whatever's on the left). The other two are okay.

I have a lovely sage in my bedroom, so I put it in my pre-reno kitchen. It faded into nothingness. Even with the same light exposure, it was a noncolor.

If you still don't have a clear winner when the guy comes, select the most innocuous and repaint later.

In the photo I don't care for the yellow and actually like the gray but the other one is ok too.

are you repainting the kitchen and the family room?

The color all the way to the right appears to be the same color as the couch. I don't know how well the gray on the left will work with your family room furniture.

Have you considered a chocolate brown? That would work with your counters, your cabinets, your fam rm chairs and sofa.

Look at Valspar's colors at Lowes....(of course I'm sure I could come up with something in BM) but I used paints from the strip with Coastal Villa in my last house. The darkest color was Italian Leather. Very dark, used as an accent wall on 2 ends of the fam room kitchen area. It was a brown with a gray undertone.

I'm not sure if you want to go really dark, but I had used Chocolate Candy Brown from BM in my dining room. Not sure if the undertones work for your space. There was some red in it.

OR look for a gray that matches the circles in those chairs. I see some dark grays. I'm not sure how much wall space you have to paint in the kitchen, but maybe a really rich charcoal gray. I just think if you are painting both rooms, the colors on the counter don't look like they will work with that sofa, or your art work.

This is not a dark rich gray, but I just had the entire house painted Gray Owl by BM. It is a show stopper. It's in their off white colors, but is is gorgeous. Getting lots of compliments already and the house is still under construction.

I think you daughter is right. You need a richer, more intense color than those you are showing. Perhaps a darker version of the either the gray or the tan. Don't care much for the yellow.

First, tell the painter you need to reschedule because you can't find the color you love.

Second and so on, Remember that a couple of coats actually can create a "richer" look.

Now remember this next question comes from the colors' resolution on my monitor: Do you realize everything in your home is pretty much the same value?

Value is light or dark. Everything is of the same grey/white/tan/hint of blue + your black appliances. Shoot! Even your dog and your dog's toy blend in.

IMHO, you need something to make that lovely granite stand out. Something darker. Chocolate is dramatic for someone afraid to invest in paint, but I agree it might be a great choice. A darker, steel blue perhaps?

I'm one fighting with my greens turning turquoise in natural light. grrrr... Finally found the perfect color with the Valspar, which I tried simply based upon their current TV ad.

Look.
It's just paint. It's not a lifetime investment or affecting peace on earth. Buy some darker colors and paint one wall. Make certain your granite and cabinets are involved. And live with it for a week.

Pick the paint chips you've looked at, liked, but immediately dismissed as too dark. You've got a gorgeous kitchen and some cool chairs in your family room. Show 'em off!

CEFreeman offered great advice. I had the same thought (though less coherently!) in that I like the color on the right of your samples, but it would make the living room furniture disappear. An off-white/pale beige would give you essentially the same look you have now, but could be blah in the kitchen (unless you want a soothing, layered whites look). Something needs to happen to heighten the contrast, whether that's going darker, or picking a similar value but in a distinctly different color family, like green, so the couch can't disappear into it.

We have similar colours and we used BM florentine plaster CC520 in one section of the house and BM stone hearth - CC490 - in another section. Just a couple more options for you to try.

I understand your problem. I painted my kitchen a green-blue-gray. If I put something blue next to it, it looks green. If I put something green next to it, it looks blue. Colors change based on the colors they are next to. Your granite looks to have yellow undertones, so it will make a beige look greener than your den furniture with green undertones does. Does that make sense?

Is there a specific brand of paint your painter wants you to use? If so, let us know and someone may be able to make a recommendation. At first glance, I agree with some of the others that your den furniture might look fantastic with a darker color behind it.

I think a tan with more gold in it would go better with the granite.

On a side note, my parents have baseboard heaters and used to always paint them white like the baseboards. Recently they painted them to match the walls instead and it really improved the appearance of the rooms! I didn't realize how much I noticed the heaters until after they disappeared into the wall.

Something similar to the dark grey in the circles of the chair. It would pick up the grey in the counter top and the hardware on the cabinets. You already have the tan sofa picking up tan circles in the chair and tan in the carpet. The grey paint on the sample board almost has a lavender tint to it. I think you need to go darker than that.

Paint pints aren't returnable, but might be appreciated by the local High School drama department. They can be used for painting the sets for productions.

I'll leave the decorating advice to others....
