Allison0704, Can you post more pics of your beautiful home?
Comments (21)Oh shoot, TXgal! I forgot - I'm writing it down so when it gets lighter outside I can look. So sorry! :-/ Thank you, Amy. Jennifer, that was the only semi-arguement we had during construction. DH wanted them, I didn't. We actually had the cans in (4 in each the GR and MBR) but even the electrician agreed they would not only ruin the look of the room, but with the roof pitch, the light would not be thrown directly to the floor (even using cans meant for sloped ceilings - the pitch was different). He removed them before the drywall was started. In both the GR and MBR we have four metal sconces that throw light up/down. We use them and two lamps in the GR at night when it's just us. If we have company and want a brighter room, there are two more lamps and the great room receives light from the DR/Foyer/Kitchen. You can see one of the sconces lit in picture #7 and two unlit in #16. I just noticed your moniker. I'm sorry you hate building - we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I was just recently trying (just a tad) to talk DH into building again! We've been the only house on our street for two years and two new houses have just started construction. We do have 4.5acres so it's not like our old neighborhood but we were used to the seclusion....See MoreLooking for pictures of wood hood above 36' range with 8' ceiling
Comments (17)annab, I love my Wolf AG, but there is 1 issue that bug me a bit: for really small pots, the high flame seems to hit the outer edge so the stuff inside seems to get hit from the sides. Not an issue for medium size pots though. The medium and low flames are fine... The grates get kinda spattered, but I throw em in the dishwasher from time to time. The black flat parts (under the grates) get a little streaky, but generally are easy to keep clean -- its also a little hard for me to judge, you may want to ask my cleaning service :) It does stay fairly clean in between their visits though. Good luck, -- Andy...See More8 foot ceilings...no wood hood?! ouch!
Comments (17)The spec for the Wolf DF range states that any combustible material must be at least 36" above the cooking surface. With a 96" ceiling, and allowing for crown, your hood can be no taller than 21". You can do it as long as you follow the manufacturer's specs. You don't need to go to 60". So, as long as you can accomplish the aesthetics you desire in a wood hood 48" wide x 21" high, you are fine! As others have said, it has nothing to do with code - although I can't pretend to know every local code. As a salesperson, I have called dozens of town building depts as well as three state building depts to ask about this particular "code". Every single time I could get an answer on this issue I was told that, in at least the municipalities I have spoken to, they default to the manufacturer's specs....See MoreAnother 8 ft ceiling question (chimney range hood?)
Comments (25)All nice chimney hoods. I came in late on this topic, also 8' ceiling, but looking for bead board chimney wood hood. They said chimney part would b trimmed to 9-10" and 23" for hood and 3.5" for crown. Does anyone have this combo?? Not sure if it would look funny. Thx...See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
