They're always bad here, and they're probably worse right now because I've been unable to mow the lawns. Ticks love tall grass, and they've got it in spades this week.

Yes! Last year was the first time our old dog Jack ever had a tick, and he had several. (My poor baby, left us in Jan. at 16 years old) DH had a couple on him. And for the first time in my life I had one on me. Ugh, gag me. And I don't do "outside", haha.

Already had one on me this year, dh has had 3 or 4 anyhow. He does all the mowing/weed whacking etc. We have a LOT of mowing.

They have been getting increasingly worse here over the past 3 years. 3 summers ago one of my BIL's, one of my nephews and 2 other people I know personally got Lymes Disease.

They are horrible. I live in South Central PA.

Awful, awful awful here in IN. I'm finally going to put the tick poison drops on my furbabies and have never resorted to that before. My gardening/yard clothes go into the washer nightly because of fear of them just riding into the house on clothes or socks.

Yes, ticks have been just terrible here for several years. We seem to have several varieties, including the very tiny ones that you can't see until you've been bitten. I have to strip off all my clothes and spray all over before I can do anything at all in my yard, including walking up to the road to the mailbox (1/10 of a mile) and actually have taken to driving up there sometimes to get the mail!

I feel like a prisoner in my house because I don't want to spray that stuff on me every day.

I don't know where you live, AnnaKay, but usually the very tiny ones are nymphs. They appear in spring, looking for a blood meal. Then they grow. (And need more blood.)

Here in PA we have all stages of deer ticks and dog ticks. And lots of infected people.

Stink bugs, though..... ugh!

Yes they are here in SE Ok. Dh has been sick for months with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. They say you can get this awful sickness by taking infected ticks off your animals. Be careful, using gloves and destroying the tick properly will help.

No. I live surrounded by woods, and in the 15+ years I have been here, I haven't seen more than four or five ticks, if that. I remember a possum came up with one on her ear, and I think I had one on me one time....long time ago, and that is all I can remember for sure. I never get them on my dogs, horses, or donkeys.

Thanks AnnaKay. It was a very hard time for us. He was such a good, loyal dog, and part of our family for sure.

LuAnn, the stink bugs here are beyond terrible. They are absolutely everywhere. We have a dedicated dust buster for just stink bugs. Hate. Them.

Can't leave the West Coast out.... here in So. Oregon we have ticks too....but not in the metro/suburbs area. DD and her dog encounter them frequently where she boards her horse. If you have deer, I think, you probably have ticks around.

Ticks are very bad in mid-TN. We live in a rural area that is mostly pastures & woods. I am a magnet for ticks, all I have to do is walk outside & I have a least one on me. The dogs get treated every month but I have to check them every other day. It is bad because we have pastures that they love to run around in. I don't think anything works for me so I just make sure the whole body is checked.

We don't have any that I've noticed, but we don't live in a wooded area, either. However, we have a gigantic population of love bugs. Ick! Coming home from VA they were hitting the windshield so fast it sounded like rain. Darned thing!

My daughter pulled 4 off my grandaughter yesterday here in MA. They have a lot of them. She is very vigilent about checking them every night.

alisande, I'm in N. Central NC and where I live it's very rural, lots of woods, fields of grasses and weeds. I no longer have any pets, so that's not what's attracting them, but lots of deer and bunnies and squirrels.

I wish somebody would come up with something for people like they've made for dogs, something you can put on once a month!

I swear it hasn't always been this way here. Or is it possible that I've become more attractive to them in my old age?

I haven't seen a tick in several years, but they are everywhere this year. I helped a friend clean up trash from a roadside on Saturday. After we finished, my friend said, by the way, ticks are bad on this stretch of road. Wish I'd known that before I went. I've got a supply of
Deet and would have used it. An hour later, I felt something crawing on me and it was a small tick. Got rid of that one.

On Sunday, my son and i shot a few baskets of disc golf at the local village park. The next day, I discovered a tick burying its head on my neck. It was about 1/8 inch long.

Yup, we got ticks this year and in places where there were none in years past. I guess the winter was not brutal enough, and the numer of deer coming into town at night has increased.

I don't think it hasn't been hot enough, long enough here to see many. I know they are 'out there' because we live next to a deer path. Our Westie gets the Frontline every month, year round. I brought out the Deep Woods Off! for DH to apply before he and Eliot do their after-breakfast neighborhood patrols.

I see some dragonflies coming up from the creek -- which is running high this morning after a lovely all-night rain.
