Travertine Decking

Very curious about travertine decking. I have read that it does not retain heat so it stays cool and that it is not slippery. Does anyone have experience with this type of decking?

We are currently having our pool built and have chosen a gorgeous rainbow/sunset travertine for coping and decking. We went with the tumbled unfilled to assure a non slippery surface. Prior to choosing, we had samples outside when it rained and they were not slippery at all when wet (or dry). They also sat in the sun for hours on end...they never felt hot. They always seemed to be much cooler than the air temperature. We live in Florida with the sweltering sun too! We can't wait, our travertine may very well be the what we most like about our project!

Hi We have a pool with travertine deck around it. We are starting to do our landscaping and as part of it would like to get the patio covered with either travertine or marbella shell pavers. We are leaning towards Marbella since it doesnt get too hot (I live in AZ). There will also be a walkway from the patio to the pool deck. We are wondering how the transitions will look, from the marbella patio and the walkway to the travertine deck. Options we are looking at is doing the patio in marbella, walkway in a checkered pattern of marbella and travertine, so it meets the travertine deck with some common feature. If not, we are looking for other suggestions, or would you recommend just staying with travertine all the way through. The side yard is going to have a concrete paver walkway which also meets the travertine decking of the pool. I'd appreciate your suggestion to help with our decision. Thanks..

It shouldn't be level. It should pitch down and away from the pool. This promotes draining away from the pool during rain or heavy splash outs, keeping dirt out. Without pictures of when it was being laid, we can't tell if they followed best practices, good practices, or on the cheap. Scott

Color is Stellar Noce. Purchased from Gothicstone in Pa. www.gothicstone.com. A few stones have settled but were easily reset as they are dry set. Couple of small cracks, but stones easily replaced with extras we have. If you have any future issues with pool pipes. etc, easily accessed, if you cement them down, tougher fix for sure. Edges fixed in with cement perimeter. Totally happy. Not slippery, stay cool even in the hottest weather, direct sun a day long. They still look great. Resists staining from all kinds of spills. Easily powerwashed if needed. Good Luck! Here are some recent photos.

Nothing but 2 thumbs up after 2 years with ours. No slip, no heat, no problems! Do a search on " thejimbar " in this forum and you will find posts and photos.

We have smooth travertine coping. It is great, but does get slippery when wet. Our deck is brushed concrete.
