Once something starts bugging you it is hard to "just let it go" -- I got REAL GOOD and taking things apart when I did my kaleidoscope quilt. (Even literally put darts in a couple blocks to get it to match right!) I noticed you have the four corners of blocks in the center perfectly matched -- the little muslin squares. I would let that intersection go as far askew as I needed to to get the black parts lined up. Since the muslin is roughly the same color it's really "one square" in the center -- IMO, matching it's points is not important. Where as the black/white intersections jump out at you. I would get those black squares matched up and sewn together. (Taking at least the one in like I suggested above) THEN, if I had a significant difference in size between the top and bottom muslin pieces in the center, I'd take the one that is larger and tighten its seam up -- Go up higher - maybe right below where the black starts and resew the seam angling inward ever so slightly so that by the time I reach the bottom my seam allowance is more than 1/4 inch -- I've sewn at an angle. Too extreme an angle and it won't lie flat but I think you can get away with enough to take up the slack. And once it's quilted who will know?! Clear as mud?!

Vicky, An I Spy Quilt is made from fussy-cut fabrics, usually children's prints or other types of novelty fabrics with motifs that depict objects the child can "spy" when looking at the quilt. I Spy Quilts are typically made from squares, since they are easy to fussy cut, but you'll also find quilts made with other patchwork shapes.

This year at school, I had a 4th grader (aged 10)who's family did not allow to go on field trips. Since she earned the privilege, but could not attend; I asked her if she would like to tac her own quilt in place of the field trip. She was so excited!. I took my frames to school, and she helped me to set the frames and sandwich the backing, batting and top. Then I showed her how to tac the quilt. It was crib sized: @45 x 65. (I call them lap quilts or travel quilts when I work with older children.) We set the frames on the stage, although I could have set them up in the library. The other children were fascinated! They begged to make their own, and to help her with her quilt. She would come in to school early, tac as soon as she finished breakfast and lunch, and while waiting for pick up in the afternoons. I pinned the edges for her and showed her how to hem it with a blind stich. As soon as she finished, she wanted to do another. Next year we are planning a quilting club after school. We may have time to move on to pieced quilts, etc.; but the most important part is planting the seed! Kudos to you for your desire to inspire! Wonderful suggestons. I decided on the rail fence idea and an 8" block. That's big but I have to fill a queen size quilt with only 90 signatures and I did it with plain old math. I left a hole in the middle where I'll put a carpenter's star motif. I've sent the bride out to pick her blue fabrics and will strip piece the blocks and iron freezer paper to the back. Now, I have to test all my pigma and other pens to see which holds up better after a few washes. Wedding is Oct 13th. But I'll have plenty of time after that to put them all together.
