Hi magdainpdx, We have similar tastes in heirloom seeds, which is great for the long haul in trading - but then many that I have are the ones you have already. That said, from your want list, I think I at least have a few Pruden's Purple and Hugh's (yellow?) tomato and maybe some of those zinnia types from a past trade, so I will check. Hopefully you might also find a few things on the updated part of my have list that interest you...or lots of things from the less updated part. All mine were new this spring. I received 2 from Mary Jane and the rest were gifted to me and they were very small single fans. I was very happy that someone shared with me. All but 1 has 2 fans now. So nope I haven't had them long for sure but I just really got into daylilies in a big way this year. My oldest plant I have only had for 3 years this summer. I do not keep track of bud count, branching and such. I do not hybridize so I just read what the information available. So not much help for you there. But Mary Jane is in Tennessee so they have to be pretty hardy. I do try to buy plants that have at least 15-20 bud count from anybody! What I have right now -Gifts Westbourne Bigg & Redd All Over - bloomed this and multiplied well very quickly to 3 fans. Westbourne Curtain Ruffles Westbourne Fireside Chat 1 Westbourne unknown...they forgot to mark which one it is. Will have to wait until next year. Bought Westbourne Oranges For Christmas Westbourne Harvest Moon - is a stunning polychrome! I hate posting pics here but... Bigg and Redd All Over Oranges For Christmas Harvest Moon My real point is that until you yourself grow it in your garden you really don't have any idea how ANY plant will do. ANd accept that some of us just want to grow pretty flowers to enjoy. We have no intentions of breeding plants. Not everyone wants to hybridize but I certainly respect those of you that do. I would need to check on Dave's ....but there is at least 1 member that grows Westbournes in MN. I believe Trick or Treat was one because I got some seeds off the LA from her. Her name is cataddict on the LA. Sadly I had to decide I don't have room to do seedlings. Anyway...I hope you decide to try at least 1 Westbourne daylily! Sorry if I came across to strong....

I seem to be doing my Hallowe'en reading early this year, having this month finished two rather large books, both dealing with supernatural themes. I absolutely lovedThe Little Stranger by Sarah Waters, and recommend it to anyone interested in "haunted house" stories. The book also paints a very interesting picture of how life in rural England changed after World War II. A few days ago I finished Peter Straub's sprawling (and quite gruesome) Floating Dragon. I am sorry to report I found it a bit disappointing, especially compared to his earlier novel Ghost Story, which is one of my favorite scary books. I prefer quiet, unnerving scares to gore. Also, the two books were very similar in their themes, which makes a comparison of the two inevitable. Hopefully my next reading choice will be a bit more suitable for summer. The brutal heat has settled on us, unfortunately. I am being a stubborn goat and not turning on my air conditioner until June.

I know betty-in-the-villages does occasionally....I think she just changed her name. I don't know about the rest, but the names are familiar, so I wish them a good day.

Thanks, Phyllis_Mn and everyone else! I've been "lurking" for years and don't remember EVER posting before.

I hit the big "55" today, and am loving every minute of it!

I check in every now and then, and am amazed at how nice, thoughtful, and funny folks on this site can be. No matter what mood I may be in, I can be sure I'll get a good laugh,
be moved to tears, or see some AMAZING photos or recipes.

I hope that all of you have really great birthday ... one that you'll remember for a long time.

If there may have been some distance, or bad feelings that may have developed with some family members of friends, I hope that they'll take some initiative to re-establish a better, closer relationship - that'd be a really great birthday gift.

Enjoy each day as it comes ... who knows how many more there'll be?
